What stage are you at? GCSE?

I would assume you could think about how the author creates the narrative and what they're trying to achieve. So consider language, characterisation, plot etc and how it all comes across to you, the reader.

For instance, is there a straightforward timeline or does it jump about? Is it a first/second/third person narration? Do we hear what different characters think? Is it related with a sense of hindsight? What kind of form is used - is it written as though it's a series of letters/a diary account?

What kind of techniques and imagery does the author use? Are there biblical references/allegories etc?

I might be completely misunderstanding what's expected of you, but this could be somewhere to start  Good luck!
If you're at AS level and doing AQA it means the aspects of narrative:
Plot, setting, characterisation, time/sequence, narrative voice and language

If you're not doing that, those should help you anyway  xx
