The Student Room Group

Branch location in alcohol

Assume that we have this alcohol: (CH3)3COH. In this case, we will have three methyl functional groups on the only C.

Now, and I know that the formula may be wrong, but just want to ask if we see a formula like the following, on which C will the CH3 be located, the first C (from the left), or the second one?

CH(CH3)3COH

Thanks.
