Biochemistry/biological sciences at Portsmouth 2013

Heyy, I've just accepted my offer for Biochemistry at Portsmouth anyone else applied for this next year?? Or biology/marine biology as we share most lectures in the first year

I went to the open day for Biochemistry and really loved it. They have loads of good equipment and the staff were all really nice. The people were friendly, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it

It's been set as my insurance, so I'd be very happy to go there :P

I'm currently first year doing Biochem in Portsmouth, and I'm loving it right now! Expect to be with a lot of people in lecture rooms as there are tonnes of us especially with the fact we share majority of lectures with other courses :P

Yeahh I went to the open day and the lecturers seemed laid back and friendly and the students seemed really nice which is good
I'm on a gap year so I have an unconditional offer so I'm definitely going there now can't wait to start

Ah glad you're loving it can't wait to start! Yeah That should be ok its a chance to meet people from the other courses i guess! How many hours roughly do you have of lectures/labs a week?

Yeah it is, but in second and third year you specialise so the groups aren't as big. The first term there's quite a lot of lectures and labs, the timetable isn't the same for every week which I think is good because we do more work at the beginning and then the hours decrease significantly unlike other courses who have a set timetable for the whole year. Looking at my timetable for the first term around 15 hours, more if you attend the graduate skills unit lectures which I never turned up to since I didn't need to. You have a unit which is all lab(10 practicals). We did 2 practicals one day a week every 2 weeks. Second term definitely has less hours than first term! 3rd term, well I'll be starting that soon but I think it's just revision. hope that answered your questions

Biochemistry at Portsmouth is my insurance option; my firm is Biomed at Portsmouth. XDD Regardless I'll be at this uni, providing all my exams go well! It's nice to meet people from similar courses.

Good thing about Experimental Biology was that we were all in a group so all the Biochemists got to know one another along with the Perspectives unit.

I really enjoyed my first year with the workload decreasing throughout the year.

I haven't applied for halls yet because there was some problems with my uni choices, I had to change Portsmouth to my firm and plymouth to my insurance. But I will get an accommodation pack soon, which halls have you applied to?

Ahhright where you thinking of applying? Yeahh I applied for guildhall campus ensuite room as my first choice, but they don't let you choose which specific building you want to be in only the campus which is annoying!! But I'm hoping to get into James Watson
