CCEA AS 1 Germany 1918-1945

Has anybody got any ideas what topic will come up for the sources questions?


Any help I would be grateful

I remember going to do this exam last June, and the two things I was expecting to come up were the Nazis economic polices or Nazi Culture and propaganda. The economic policies came up.

I just had a look at my stuff from last year, and there are four topics i can see that have NEVER came up as source questions since the new specification in 2009:
- The German Revolution 1918 - 1919
- The Weimar economy 1918 - 1933
- Nazi Social Policies for Children
- Nazi Social Policies for minority groups (excluding Jews)
- Nazi Culture

I know for a fact that Nazi Culture has come up before as sources in old spec papers, that paper might even still be on the CCEA website, and it seems like such a big topic not to ask about, particularly as the spec is changing again next year.

The source questions for all the new spec papers, and the theme of the course they come from, are:
JUNE 2014: Nazi Economy 1933 - 1939 (Theme 2)
JAN 2014: Reorganisation of the Nazi Party 1924 -1929 (Theme 1)
JUNE 2013: Nazi Policies towards Jews 1933 - 1945 (Theme 2)
JAN 2013: Nazi policies for girls and women 1933 - 1939 (Theme 2)
JU​NE 2012: Establishment of the Nazi Dictatorship 1933 - 1934 (Theme 2)
JAN 2012: Rise of the Nazi Party 1930 - 1933 (Theme 1)
JUNE 2011: Nazi Economy 1933 - 1939 (Theme 2)
JAN 2011: Nazi Policies towards Jews 1933 - 1945 (Theme 2)
JUNE 2010: Kapp Putsch and Political Risings 1918 - 1923 (Theme 1)
JAN 2010: Establishment of the Nazi Dictatorship 1933 - 1934 (Theme 2)
JUNE 2009: Opposition to the Nazi Dictatorship 1933 - 1945 (Theme 2)
JAN 2009: Rise of the Nazi Party 1930 - 1933 (Theme 1)

(FYI Theme 1 = Weimar Germany 1918 - 1933; Theme 2 = Nazis in power 1933 - 1945)

There is a noticeable trend here, that the Source Questions usually tend to come from the second theme. I don't know whether that is just coincidence or it is easier to get sources for the second half of the course (which it definitely is, as that period of history is the most over studied in the world)

Looking there, opposition to the Nazis hasn't come up for a while, and the rise of the Nazis is always popular.

In truth, you really shouldn't be focusing on just one topic in the hope that it will come up. Try and do as many 1.a) questions as you can in revision as that will help you consolidate your knowledge on all the topics. Also do a few past papers as well, time management is something a lot of people underestimate, and you can only find that out from doing full papers. When I'm doing history essays, I try to write a page every 12 minutes (my handwriting is quite small though so it might be different for you haha).
