IGCSE Edexcel English Language - June 2015

Hi, i was wondering if we could think about what text may come up in both anthology's for Section A and Section B.

So yeah.. What do you guys and girls think?

- Rehaan

EDIT AND UPDATE: A Passage to Africa will not come up as it came up on an "R" paper, along with The Necklace. One's likely to come are:
- Climate Change: The Facts
- Greenpeace Webpage
- Veronica
- Unknown Girl
(edited 8 years ago)

My guess is that one of these may come:
Touching the void
Beach safety
Climate change
A passage to africa
The Explorer's Daughter
Game of polo with a headless goat

There are only 4 left that haven't been tested yet i think
- climate change webpage: greenpeace UK
-Climate change: the facts
-From A passage to Africa
-Explorers, or boys messing about
I thought Section B was only for the coursework essay? I haven't revised it...

You don't need to revise the Section B if you did the coursework. We only have to sit one paper, while the people who don't do coursework have to sit two paper. Us coursework takers chose the alternate route and did the coursework writing pieces and speaking assessments instead of doing Paper 2.
Anyone doing Spec B, can't find anyone!

The explorers daughter came up June 2013 there is minimal possibility it would come up again.
I predict it will be either one of the environmental ones or the "Explorers, or boys messing about" one.

Does anyone else agree that this specification just kills the joy of English altogether? The Section A text is often so dull. The Section B short writing questions are terribly mundane and, yet worse, Section C is a matter of luck. You're either lucky to get an autobiographical question (I hope we do) or one about "How can you improve the local area?" or something.

I hate English because of it. :\
I'm a competent writer and reader, but it's so difficult to convey competency when the questions aren't particularly engaging. They can't exactly use Jane Austen extracts (or classical literature in general) in Section A, though. It would be too predictable to research, even though it would be more interesting. The language might be too complex for ordinary candidates. -.- (The "Snowed In!" one literally wanted me to poke my eyes out with a fork, so that I'd never have to see such terrible writing ever again. T_T)

Also, it's advised that you keep the analysis fairly straightforward for Section A... and avoid making it too complex. :s-smilie: Complexity scores no marks. Just look at language/infer stuff from the text, blah, blah. And the first couple of questions aren't even about analysis - just comprehension. rofl

I don't know. I'll be glad to get this exam out of the way.

Edit: Section A of the anthology is terrible. In what universe would I care about beach safety or Joe and Simon climbing a mountain - what morons! Ugh!

Explorers or boys messing about came out last 2015- January paper, so they would hardly repeat it

Dang. I didn't know about that paper. I guess that narrows it down then.
June 2011 explorers or just boys messing around
Jan 2012 Touching void
June 2012 headless goat
Jan 2013 beach safety
June 2013 explorers daughter
Jan 2014 Chinese Cinderella
June 2014 taking on the world
Jan 2015 explorers or boys messing around
June 2015 ????????????
the absent pieces:
From a passage to Africa
Climate change 1&2
Probably, one of the 4 left would come this time.

1. Touching the Void
2. Climate Change (Article)
3. Climate Change (Webpage)
4. A passage to Africa.

There is a higher chance for Climate Change - this time.
