Still waiting...

Ah that's comforting. Nice to hear from another philosopher btw, is St Andrews your first choice?

GUYS! i applied to management with French and German (With a year abroad) but I got an unconditional for just management? Is it possible I can ask them to change this because i'd much rather do French and German than management.

It doesn't matter at all. When you get there you'll be doing three subjects equally and after two years you are asked what you want to specialise in. To do a dual or singe honours.

So if you've got an unconditional for management you'll be fine! Well done for getting it

Thank you! Some people on TSR just informed me that it may be possible that my first course choice was full or my grades were not high enough so they just offered me an alternative course instead to lure me into going to st andrews so I can't change the course. Do you think this is actually true?

I have a friend who applied to the MChem but whose offer was for BSc and they called up admissions to see if they can change it. I would recommend for you to do the same.

What happened to your friend? Were they able to change it?

Not sure yet. I've already gotten an offer from UCL and now I'm waiting to hear from Edinburgh, so in the end I will be deciding among those three if given an offer from all. I'm a bit concerned by the low student satisfaction at UCL so I tend to prefer Scottish unis at the moment. Also, I'm an EU applicant so I can study for free in Scotland...
What about you?

Cambridge will be my firm but either Durham or St Andrews will be my insurance. The only problem with St Andrews is that the course is 4 years long and I don't know if I want to be at uni for the extra year. Ah you're so lucky to get free tuition! It would actually be more expensive overall for me to go to a Scottish uni than an Englidh one because of the extra year.

Anyone heard for philosophy? I'm starting to worry...

I'm doing Modern History and Philosophy (if that counts in any way as Philosophy) and I've heard back. Then again, I was an international applicant, so...

You don't have to spend an extra year there, you can do direct entry into second year if your grades in A2 are good enough. The first year of uni in Scotland is equivalent to A2 levels; many Scottish students come in at 17 years old.

Really? Oh, that changes things then! I may seriously be putting St Andrews above Durham then, thanks.

Edit: Just checked their policy and unfortunately philosophy isn't listed as one of the subjects which offer direct entry into second year :frown:

Some subjects which offer direct entry aren't listed there for some reason. I'm doing maths direct entry and maths isn't listed there. It might be a good idea to check with the department (send them an email or phone call or something) to see what they do, or check on their department web page.

Thanks so much, I will ask them

Do you know if it would be possible to switch to 2nd year entry then if I do get the offer? I will be 19 by the time I get there and I will have finished A2 D:
Still waiting to hear for Modern History and Economics
