Can I study law in Scotland and then train as a solicitor in England?

I'm thinking of going to Glasgow University and was wondering if you had to have an English Law degree to train as a solicitor.

You can study in Scotland, but you will have to do the GDL and LPC in order to train as a solicitor in England, since the systems are different. What I would suggest is to apply for a degree in Scots and English Law which is offered by the University of Dundee and Strathclyde, which would make it easier (and perhaps give you a better edge) for you to become a solicitor in England.

I've already applied to Glasgow but thanks for the advice. How long does the GDL and LPC take?
GDL and LPC are both one year respectively.

Two years if you do part time for each respective course
