Hi,
Has anybody got any exam predictions for the new spec of sociology on the 17th of May? The education paper?

Probably won't be on ethnic differences in education, because that was in a practice essay the examining board provided for the teachers.

Hello, I've memorised like 109 sociologists for the Education unit, and currently got around 70 for Family and Households, of course I know what they say in note form I will expand linking with the question. How are you revising, and does anybody have any predictions for the Education paper on the 17th of May?

how do u remember all of them?
Thanks so do you basically state your point with a theorist and counter it again with another? I'm not familiar with A01 and A02

I learn around 8-10 sociologists a day. For each sociologist eg. Parsons talks of the education system as a ''focal socialising agency''. So I remember:
''Parsons - focal socialising agency''
With that I can then talk about what it is, and then mention Durkheim, and so on. So basically get the sociologist, and 'attach' a phrase and/or figure/statistic to it. Make sure to learn the sociologists for each topic, so like for Cultural Deprivation, I have:
Bernstein - restricted/elaborated speach codes
Douglas - parental interest
Feinstein - parenting style
Sugarman - fatalism, collectivism, immediate gratification and present time orientation
Keddie - cult. depr. is a myth
Troyna and Williams - speech codes

So that would be for one day, and each day I would add a topic eg. material deprivation, cultural capital and so on; and each day I would make sure I know the ones I learn the day prior. So now I have 109 sociologists for Education... yep...

Yep, remember that A01 (lets say Parsons) must be criticised by an A02 (eg. Ann Oakley).

I got taught it this way, I'll give the example of ethnic differences in Education:

Berciller and Engelman - A01
Gillborn and Mirza - A02
Meynihan - A01
Charles Murray - A01
Surroden - A01
Sewell - A01
Gillborn A02
Lupton - A02
McCulloch - A02

Driver A02
Keddie A02

Palmer - A01
Modood - A02

Woods - A02

For my 20 mark essay I would like to include at least the first list, stating the A01, and then evaluating it with the A02. Maybe, I would mix the A01s with the A02s so there would be a A01-A02-A01-A02 flow of the evaluation in relation to the question.

You don't need that many studies
Who ever is teaching you is going over the top

This is the same for education and family? and then methods in context is just strengths and limitations and research methods is just P.E.T?
Thanks so much for the help:smile::u:

I can't deny the writing gets quite large, lets say from normally 11-12 words per line at the start to like 8-9 at the end; but yes, our teacher set us 20 mark questions each week. So we had to memorise the topic, and then write it down in exam conditions. Each week.

Yes, that A01 and A02 method is used for Education/Family and Households etc, while for Research Methods in Context/Research Methods it's P.E.T. - just remember to give examples of studies for Research Methods in Context, or make up your own scenarios. Glad I could help!

Same way for Families and Households, I just find Research Methods a bit difficult - but I guess it's just knowing the pros and cons of each method. How are you revising yours?
