for the question about the reasons for women having children later i accidentally wrote de-secularisation instead of secularisation, will the examiner not give me a mark considering this mistake?

your answers sound great.

i put domestic violence as well for womens exploitation, linked to dobash and dobash and explained how they have no voice in a relationship

for zaretsky: i said that he says that this idea that the family is a "safe haven" away from the capitalist world of work is actually an illusion. the family is actually a place of tension and nott refuge.

is this right??
1. serial monogamy- I wrote something along the lines of "when people have a series of relationships which are each loyal to that person" (I hadn't learnt this but it seems like common sense)

2. domestic abuse is an example of women's exploitation in the home- Dobash and Dobash (domestic violence is caused by women challenging men's authority) and Ansara and Hindin (women suffer more domestic violence than men and it has more severe psychological consequences)

3. three reasons for women having children later-
A- impact of paid work, the roles have been broken down and women are no longer just the expressive role- they may go to work and focus on their career first and have children later
B- introduction of effective contraception- allows intimacy without reproduction- people can plan when they have kids more and often opt to have them later
C- later age of marriage- due to it being dis-embedded from the economic system, individualisation thesis, changing norms

4. two policies affecting the experience of childhood
A- laws preventing children from working before the age of 16- thus seen as needing protection, creates golden age of childhood- I compared this to in the middle ages where children were simply "mini adults"- Aries found painting depicted them like this
B- laws against child abuse- children seen as vulnerable and needing protection, child centred family, different views to in the middle ages where children were called "it" (Shorter)

5. evaluating the Marxist contributions of theories of the family
- society is based on division between capitalist and working class
-Marxists see the family as perpetuating this in three ways- as a unit of consumption, for the inheritance of property and for ideological functions
- family is a safe haven (Eli Zaretsky) and men can take their anger out and then return to work to continue serving capitalism
-Fran Ansley- women are the takers of ****- absorb men's anger in the home
- contradicted by the functionalist argument
-functionalists argue that Marxists ignore the benefits of the family for its members and for society
-.e.g. Murdock- 4 functions- socialisation, economic needs, reproduction and stabilisation of sex drive
- Marxists also criticised by feminists- who say Marxists focus too much on class inequalities, and forget about gender inequalities
-conclusion- all structural theories are criticised by the personal life perspective
-Nordqvist and Smart- emphasise the importance of bottom up approaches, criticise Marxist approach because it is a top down approach

RESEARCH METHODS
1. two ethical issues (4 marks)
-Harm to ppts- may affect what type of method they use
-deception- Milgram- they thought they had actually killed someone- may need debriefing, also affects the type of method they use

2. 16 marker about the use of official stats
+representative
-criticised by interpretivists such as Cicourel for lacking depth
+ free, easy to access, useful as a preliminary tool
- may not be relevant as collected for government purposes
+ objective, liked by Durkhiem- comparison of suicide between Protestants and Catholics
+ can make comparisons and see differences or trends across time
- cannot actually make comparisons because the government manipulate definitions- e,g. the definition of unemployment has changed 30 times, so can't actually make comparisons
Anybody here do the resit Education paper from the old spec today? if so lets take a moment to appreciate how great the paper was compared to last year :bhangra:
1. When a person remarries with a different partner multiple times.
2. Through maternity leave as woman are expected to care for their child all day everyday and remain housebound performing domestic tasks.
3. Contriception.
Raising aspirations.
Increase in divorce rates means woman want to be stable within a marriage before commiting to starting and providing for a family.
4. Compulsary education until age 18 well explained (increase economic dependence whilst reducing independence creating an age barrier between adults and children).
Then -_- i put about sex discrimination laws and equal pay act which leads to rising aspirations of young girls who have more opportunities as a child such as maths and science aided through the national curriculum being introduced. IS THIS A RELEVENT POINT?
5. Introduction.
First point was about inheritance of property no theorists names used -_- used an example like putting your son on the will.
Criticised with functionalist.

Second point was about ideological influence of the male authority figure for children to obey creating the same values as they are expected to have in capitalist workplaces.
Criticised with functionalist again very briefly as i was desperate with 1 min to go.

RES METH.

1. Consent needing to be gained for studying children especially using covert methods.
2. Ppts emotions when discussing subjective matters.

And 16 marker i wrote about..
1. Objectivity and therefore reliablility as its quan data also allowing patterns and trends to be identified.
2. Weakness of this is lack of inisght and detail regarding the cause of the trend so lacks validity.
3. Second strength was they are secondary data saving time collectig them alongside avoiding consent issues when researching children allowing a greater sample to be researched meaninf greater generalisability.
4. Weakness is low representitiveness as you did not personally collect the sample so you dont know if groups are represented equally in the data.

WHAT WOULD I GET OUT OF 60?

Yeah that's right , when you read all my answers what grade / how many marks would you say estimating ? Your opinion would be great
How many marks would i lose if i didnt evaluate the research methods question, i thought it said examine the advantages so i wrote about 7-8 advantages but no disadvantages so stupid of me, i knew what to write, thats going to probably be the A-B boundary because of the marks i lost there, im so pissed at the moment lol
Anyways i think both papers were nice..

its supposed to be 90 per cent advantages, 10 per cent disadvantages. that's what Keith Trobe says, and he writes the exams.

so you'll be fine, might lose 2 or 3 marks at most
I know right, probably the easiest 20 markers i have come across as well

the research methods question only asked for advantages???? i only wrote about disadvantages in the conclusion?? wouldnt it make sense for you to loose marks if you wrote about disadvantages as the question asked for advantages?

i think you would get definitely low 40s probably 42/43
but you know your six marker
how did you explain infant mortality rate and dual earner as delaying childbirth, they sound quite interesting

i put;
changing ambitions
better educational opportunities
financial issues and then explained them

hey, i was thinking the same in the exam but i still put disadvnatages because it said evaluate and that implied weighing up advantages and disadvantages to me?

also i asked my teacher after and he said that you were meant to consider them
