Because it's important (?)

I am aware that he was declared dead at the hospital.

But he didn't arrest him when he was on the floor either.

He wasn't running, he was resisting, and bear in mind that not being able to breathe can induce violent resist and struggle because your body is frantically searching for air. You even see his arm flailing about.

So do you think that they could have handled the situation differently?

Yes but the IPCC states that if an officer suspects that someone has swallowed drugs, the police should take them to hospital immediately, not after they start to become ill.

What do you think the handcuffs were for?

He was being chased by the police and he tried to escape through the shop, he was running.

Possibly.

How do you take someone to the hospital if they won't go with you willingly?

He choked himself?

IPCC has opened an independent investigation.

'Murdered by the police'. Geez, ****ing losers, people are so dumb. It must suck to be a policeman nowadays........

I mean in the shop he wasn't running from them.

You arrest them , escort them out of the shop, put them into the police car and take them to hospital, and call for backup if necessary.
Do you think that it was impossible to arrest him or something?

Do you not think the man who died could have handled the situation differently? It was his life, after all, and he should have taken more responsibility for it.

Had he not fled, accepted arrest and dealt with any misunderstanding later, he would be alive.

Obviously, if he resisted and fled for a good (to him) reason, such as avoiding a long term of imprisonment for dealing hard drugs and being caught in possession of the incriminating evidence, then we must assume he weighed up the risks of resisting and chose to accept them.

Tricky to run in a small shop.

An ambulance would probably be safer that way you could provide constant medical attention rather than transporting without medical attention.

What was he doing then? Going for a jog around the soft drinks aisle?

But the thing is, he wasn't given any medical attention until after he fell unconscious.

Pretty sure a force medic attended the scene.

It was stated that the medics gave him first aid after he was taken ill

A medic provided support before the ambulance arrived, I would guess that ambulances are protocol.

I've applied to be one, so I will be dealing with these sorts of people on daily basis if I graduate.

The point is that all of this happened after he fell ill, when he should've received medical attention as soon as the officer suspected he had swallowed drugs

Ehh, don't worry, most people are nothing like that.

How do you know that? The BBC article doesn't say when the force medic arrived or at what point the ambulance was called.

"The Independent Police Complaints Commission, said Mr Charles “became unwell” and first aid was provided by a police officer, police medics and paramedics."

That still doesn't provide a timeline of events.

Brave decision, not so much because of the people you'd be dealing with (partly this of course), but the Tory cuts. Good luck!

It stated that first aid was provided by medics after he was taken ill.
Don't know what else you want me to say...
