BSc Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship

Are you doing the BSc Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship?

If you don't know what it is, more information can be found here: https://www.thetechpartnership.com/techfuture/techfuture-careers/degree-apprenticeships/

I'm starting mine on Monday with QA Apprenticeships/University of Roehampton after completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship with QA. I also know many other apprentices from Cisco and Accenture are starting their degree apprenticeships this month also.

Which company do you work for?
What is your job role?
Which sub-specialism (Software Engineer/Data Analyst/Network Engineer are you starting with?
Which university and training provider are you doing your degree apprenticeship with?

Good luck for whoever is starting and let's support each other by starting a discussion and letting us know if you're taking part in this apprenticeship!

Yeah I just started mine last month with Accenture but they changed our degree provider from Roehampton to UEL. But they're still other apprentices from previous years who are still studying with Roehampton.

2. Application development
3. Software Engineer
4. UEL

Is this with QA too? Why did they change the degree provider?

I'm not sure if it matters or not as we go to the QA campuses instead of the actual uni, but they may have different assessments standards to adhere to.

We have a three year program (Where we all go straight into university) and those who didn't have the grades for the three year program, have to do a four year program where they obtain a Level 3 qualification with QA before moving onto University.

And they've changed it for my year where we have to actually attend university lectures instead of doing online lectures/assessments. I didn't even know we had changed universities until a few weeks before I started. I'm unsure as to why we changed providers but I would have preferred if they just stuck with Roehampton to be honest.

You probably wouldn't be able to answer this now, but do you prefer to attend university lectures instead of doing them online? The videos I've watched today are good quality, but I'm not sure if I can fully learn effectively in this way.

I'd prefer to learn online just because I don't necessarily have the inconvenience to travel to the university + I'd like to learn at my own pace rather than a teacher going through their own slides + Lectures are extremely long, mine range from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours and I'm at university 9 til 6 with 4 lectures in a day:emo:

Fair enough, I completely get what you mean. I had my first study leave today and it took me some time to get into the rhythm of studying, but I thought it went okay as I saved 3 hours worth of commuting time! That's crazily long for your uni days and I guess people learn in different ways.

I've started Level 4 now and it's a bit overwhelming having 60+ apprentices in this discussion board on Canvas, with loads of people writing 2000+ word essays in the thread. I'm trying to keep up but I'm sensing the rivalry haha.
Hello! I started the degree apprenticeship with QA in October too.

I'm currently a HR Systems and Information Advisor, and having almost completed the first module (Understanding Systems Development), I've found the online learning element to be slightly difficult - I'm not great at motivating myself but managed to finish my assignment nevertheless.

I'm doing the Data Analytics pathway...and I'm struggling to come up with a project for my Web Based Portfolio - my company aren't really big on the whole HR Data Analytics... have you decided on a project?

Hello! What a coincidence. I'm doing that module too and got an exam on Wednesday and an assignment hand-in date on Friday. I'm currently struggling with a part of the assignment to do with agile since it's about creating product and sprint backlogs and burndown charts, which wasn't covered in the online material.

I'll be doing the Data Analyst pathway too, since my role does not fit into a Network Engineer nor Software Engineer. I've selected the project that I work on for my work-based portfolio. I didn't know some people are making up their own project? It sounds easier if that's the case.
Bump!

So, the first term's over. We did the Understanding Systems Development module and the exam is done and the assignment is submitted. There's still a lot of improvements to be made to this course since there were problems with ambiguity and subjectiveness of the questions. As a result, all of the questions were re-written and we had to do the exam again.

Not an ideal start, but only improvements can be made from there. Next up for me is Data Communications and Network Security!

Hi there!

Before my degree apprenticeship, I did my A-Levels and then moved onto a Level 3 apprenticeship as opposed to university. I didn't really go through a degree apprenticeship application process as I initially enrolled on a Level 3; I was selected on the degree scheme based on my performance at work.

When I went through my application process, Not only do they look at academic ability, but they will also look at your soft skills to make sure you will fit well in the job. I had a telephone interview and psychometric test before I was invited to an assessment centre. At the assessment centre, I had a interview, group exercise and technical exam.

In the application, it's good to include any leadership and volunteering experience to show you do a lot outside of school and that you focus on your personal development. It's also important to demonstrate that you can work efficiently in the team and are confident in your communication skills.

Since you are interested in this degree apprenticeship, it may also be beneficial to show your passion for the subject and what you'd hope to gain by studying towards this degree.
Right okay thanks, i dont have much experience with in the industry is this something that would be required before applying?

Apprenticeships don't require that you have experience within the industry as it is expected that you have just come out of education, such as school/college. You'll list your educational qualifications and fill in information about any previous work experience (if any). Then you're pretty much in the application process.

I have also applied for few apprenticeships and most were also degree apprenticeships and advanced level. I had a call from estio but couldn't answer and I emailed them but haven't got a reply yet also registered with QA and nothing yet. I might goto uni but can't afford it so need this apprenticeship but not sure how to get in since all my concentration was on uni and not apprenticeship. how do I get into apprenticeship? I'm willing to start this summer

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, my thread wasn't on my watch list.

Have you managed to find an answer in the past week? It's pretty easy as I found mine on https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship and once I applied for a few, I got calls from providers such as QA about other opportunities that are suitable for me.

What A-level grades did you get to go on your degree apprenticeship, if you don't mind me asking??

I was actually eligible for the Degree Apprenticeship since I completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship. I did actually do my A-Levels and got BBC, but this wasn’t actually required to enrol onto the Degree or Level 3.
Hi there. I am currently studying Mechatronics in De Montfort University (1st year), but I am not really enjoying my course as it is very different from what I expected.... I am applying for degree apprenticeships right now, and Digital and Technology Solutions fits right in with what I am looking for... Could you tell me how's the whole experience ?

How's the workplace? How's the lectures ?
What kind of subjects do you do?
Is there a lot of mathematics involved just like mechanical engineering, etc.

Any answers would be appreciated a lot.

P.S

Applied for a degree apprenticeship with Accenture, but I am not sure if they'd consider me eligible since I did a BTEC in Engineering, rather than A levels... I did get D*D*D but still, not quite sure.

D*D*D* = A*A*A* at A Level

You will definitely be considered
