How is everyone doing on this course so far? For me, I've started my next module and working on an ongoing work-based portfolio. It's my third term now, so I'm getting used to the workload and the amount of effort I need to put in each week. Interested to know everyone else's opinions so far. :smile:

I have two more exams left and then the first year is finished !!!!! I'm just looking forward to next year when our modules focus on our specialisms, (Data Analytics or Software Development)

I haven't really been looking into any of my future modules. If you have optional modules, which ones are you picking?

I'd feel relieved once I get this work-based portfolio out of the way as I don't like working on two completely separate assignments at the same time and instead focus on one thing at a time. It's something I have to get used to though.

I'll probably end up choosing the software development modules.

What do you have to do in the work-based portfolio? Try working on 3 assignments and revising for 1 exam at the same time. Term 1 was a complete nightmare.

Fair enough, I'm not into programming so I'm trying to avoid it when possible. I do want to get into it but I feel that it will set me back on my results.

In the work-based portfolio, you basically write about all of the stages of the systems development lifecycle of your project and how you apply it to the role you are in. It's difficult as there isn't a lot of things I can share about my project so I had to make parts up which is more difficult.

The workload is difficult, but I understand at the end of each term I need to keep up the momentum. I'm still unsure if I can keep up with it for the next 4 years though as I find it difficult taking breaks as I don't want to get complacent. Studying for a degree on top of a full-time job is difficult, but still keeping my hopes up and making the most out of the opportunities. :smile:

Whats the chance of actually getting a degree apprenticeship as i've heard they're extremely competitive. For eg. If i got AAA in relevant a levels for the degree ( want to do software development ) and i have genuine interest and do lots of extra curricular like learning new programming languages, volunteering etc...

Hey there,

I got into my degree apprenticeship as I did a level 3 apprenticeship beforehand with the same company and my results shown that I was capable of undertaking the degree apprenticeship programme. I'm a bit difference so I'm unable to fully answer just how competitive they are.

In terms of entry requirements, it really depends on the company and how competitive they are. I would guess that companies such as IBM, Capegemini, Accenture will require at least ABB - AAA, but I also know of some that only require one or two A-Levels with passing grades. I do believe you need more than just the grades since you do need to express genuine interest and demonstrate your soft skills in the form of examples to the company. For my level 3, I spoke about my volunteering/leadership experience and my work-experience in retail and these really did help support my answers in my interviews.

I was wondering if anyone could help, I’ve been accepted for a degree apprenticeship, filled out all the paperwork for the company and sent in the application to the university. The whole process of recruitment is done by the university, but I’m due to start the actual job after my exams so my question is, what happens if I get an offer back from the university and I dont meet the conditions what will happen? Will I just be dropped from the job?

I"ve passed my assessment centre for Accenture, and now waiting for the results.

Since BT has not worked out, hopes of Accenture accepting me are still there.

I've done a BTEC diploma in Engineering, as well as completed my 1st year in university and majority apprenticeships allowed me to go through to assessment centres.

From all centres I"ve attended, I was the only University student at the time, and not just that - the ONLY engineering student.

From what I got told by interviewers, not a single engineering student was there at the time, with majority of applicants being CSc students...
Sucks to be me I guess 😂

Either way - I'll stay in Uni, or get an apprenticeship :smile:

It will probably be in your contact that if you don't meet the conditions, you will not be allowed to continue. It would be worded in a way that you will be accepted, subject to meeting the required grade.

Hey, been so busy, forgot to check TSR!

So, my Accenture apprenticeship didnt go through, as the interviewers thought I'm applying for the wrong role haha.

I have went to another assesment centre with Accenture couple days ago, and I am now waiting for results of that, should be in the next 5 days.

I dont think I pulled through, as I did not do my best in the interview and could have made it better for sure, but I did what I could, and I am anxious to now see the results.

At the end of the day, I'm thankful I had the experience of attending these assesment centres, and talking to a lot of cool people😋

If things dont work out, I'll be back to university, grinding my studies out :smile:
