Neonatal

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have an idea of how having a placement as neonatal pathway works. I mean with neonatal pathway, are you just place in neonatal ward or you have the variety of having your training in neonatal ward as well as hospice, community and different children ward. Pls any one that has experience this should advice as it may be of help. its difficult deciding going that way as i want to have options of working in any ward.

Thanks

Can you give a bit more information about the course/university you are applying to? Is this undergraduate or postgraduate?
Hi there,

Not sure if you found any info elswhere about this, but I assume your talking London South Bank Uni neonatal pathway course.

I will be starting the Neonatal pathway course in September. It is still a normal Children’s Nursing degree however, every year you will get a placement working in Neonatalogy and will have extra study days to prepare for this.

Here is a link to LSBU’s page regarding the specialist pathway course.

Hello there, I know this is an old thread but just wanted to ask how your studies are going? I have a place for child nursing at lsbu and have applied for the pathway. I've been told that I'll hear closer to September if I've got a place-when roughly did you get a decision? Thanks

Hi,

Studies have been going ok. Due to the pandemic, our placements were cancelled so it became theory only. They have had a few months to get use to online teaching so by the time your cohort
starts, they will be able to guide you through everything with less hassle.

My cohort was told who was accepted on the neonatal pathway the week after induction. However, I asked the pathway lead before this and was told I got on the pathway during induction week but that was because I was just impatient!

Can I ask which trust you have chosen to do your pathway? I’m currently at C&W.
I’m going to LSBU for child nursing in Sept too! I haven’t applied for the pathway but I’d love to connect. It would be good to know someone before the course starts!

Thanks so much for replying. A shame about your placements and the disruption. I have asked for the Evelina as I am travelling in from Kent and it's easier to get to. I guess it will be a strange experience at first with the pandemic. Best wishes for your 2nd year.

OK yes there is good transport links around Evelina. Good luck in your studies! First year is doable don’t stress too much about it just aim to do your best and past. Thanks and best wishes!
