Is bioengineering engineering in the true sense of the word or is it something a bit

different.

Genuinely wondering about this. Not trying to sling mud at it or something.

Yes, it's very much on the engineering side. Most bioeng degrees are very heavy on medical devices.

That would be biomedical engineering. Bioengineering in the medical field is things such as genetic and tissue engineering.

Bioengineering covers both, although in practice a bioengineering degree focuses on medical devices, won't cover genetic engineering, and will only occasionally cover tissue engineering because elements like the scaffold are more engineering based.

Biotechnology degrees are what usually cover the more biological side such as genetic engineering.
