the doctor because she can save more lives in the time she has left, the others cant.
This is a really tough one. I don't think I would personally ever like to make a decision if the situation were for real cos I don't really think anyones life regardless of their age/ situation is less valuable than anothers and if I thought I'd made a decision which resulted in someone's death I don't think I could live with myself.

If it actually did happen though I think the child would be saved, as that's the normal order in this kind of scenario, however wrong or right that may be. I can see the logic behind it though. Someone has to be saved, the youngest people have lived for the shortest amount of time and in theory have a longer amount of time ahead of them.

Btw I'm pretty disgusted at the remark about the handicapped child being 'better off dead'. Infact it made me feel quite sick. Just because a person is handicapped or disabled does not mean that they are stupid, or necessarily in great amounts of pain either. Nor does it mean that they would be "better off dead". They can make amazing progress and I don't understand how anybody could possibly come to the conclusion that they would be better off if they were dead. That was one of Hitlers policies, you know. Killing the handicapped.
What was the edit for?
... and that question goes to contestant number 3, evilcitizen.
shortysally you use the argument that that was hitler's idea to kill the handicapped, does that mean if he had came up with an idea which may be benificial u wouln't use it cus hitler thought of it?

Well, I don't think that's what she meant. Moving away from Hitler, it's still cruel to assume that disabled people deserve to die - that's like in Witch Finder (by C. L. Werner), where the plague is infecting the city, and the local Baron puts all the plague victims (including the Priestesses trying to help them) in a keep and burns it to the ground :frown:. I think instead of saying "I wouldn't use it because Hitler used it", she was saying "I wouldn't use it because it's cruel and inhumane, like many of Hitlers policies".

Anyway, personally I don't really know. The nun will probably be happy to be at peace with God, and also might provide some comfort to the others who have to die by preaching the Lord's teachings, so I regret to say she's near the bottom of the "who to save" list. But, she is scared, so I feel sorry for her. I really don't know.... The doctor doesn't have long left, but might still save more lives in that time. The man has a family to support, and who probably love him, so his death would be a blow to them. The child has his whole life to live, and who knows what he might achieve. So, in conclusion, I really don't know who I'd save :frown:.

That's ok :hugs:

I'm thinking I might save the Nun, as she's the only one whose feelings we know - the others might not be as scared of death, but then again they have their whole lives to live (with the exception of the doctor...)

Right I'll throw some more information into the pan, to see what people would argue:

1. The young female Junior Doctor has terminal cancer, but it is progessing at a slow rate and as she responded well to chemotherapy, theres no telling how long she may live - it could be 6 months, could be 6 years. Her specialist cannot say for certain.

2. The young man's previous convictions weren't serious and all occurred during his youth, 16-19 years of age. The most recent charge brought against him (manslaughter) is because he accidentily knocked down a young child playing dangerously (unsupervised) on the road. The child died.

3. The handicapped child is severely handicapped, with a mental age of a 6-year-old.

In light of these, either the doctor or the young man. The doctor can achieve a lot in however long she has to live, and who knows how many lives she may save. Again, the young man doesn't appear to be a psycho, and he has loved ones waiting for him. The child, while I do feel for him, does also not seem to be able to contribute as much to society as the doctor can. So, either the doctor or the young man.

lol thanks Saruman

What Saruman said is actually what I meant. Hitler was a very cruel, evil man with very many ridiculous policies which we would be silly to forget, so I was using the example as much as anything to illustrate how silly it is to say disabled people would be better dead...

However no, I wouldn't just not agree with something because Hitler had done it, if it was reasonable, however I don't particularly think he did actually come up with many, if any, reasonable things
