Roehampton Primary Education Interview

I got an interview at Roehampton University for primary education on the 24th of November. Is there anyone out there who's already had an interview for the same thing? If so, could you give me some advice/ideas about what they ask or what I should prepare?

Thank you!
Hi,
I'm in my second year at Roehampton University studying Primary Education. When I did the interview, you had to do an English test and then have a one on one interview with a lecturer. I would say: dress how you would if you were already a teacher, do some research about what's currently happening in Education (in terms of the government, media etc), and be confident and professional! The English test is editing a text full of errors and you also have to write a few paragraphs about a given subject. Be prepared to say why you want to do Primary teaching and what experience you have that would make you an ideal candidate. Good luck!

hi e.nelson, i had an interview at Roehampton on the 10th November. It's a really nice uni and everyone made it really relaxed and the campus is stunning!
First of all you do a written piece and correct an extract as RUAmbassador said. Then you have the interview with someone - which for me was more like a chat! But yeah, make sure you know your stuff about current issues and make sure you sound passionate about why you want to take the course.
Good luck! I hope everything goes well. I have a UWE interview on that day too and Canterbury in January. Where else are you applying for primary ed?

Hi, I had an interview last week. They asked us to write a page about why we have chosen the area we have in primary teaching then to mark a piece of work for the english test. The interview was asking about current issues in the news linking to teaching, about my experiences, why I think I am a good candidate and a little about my personal statement. I had such a lovely man who interviewed me! Just waiting for a response now! Fingers crossed. Good luck to you x

I saw on the website the grades are 300-360 ucas points...is this only from 3 A levels or from 3 A levels + 1 AS?

I think it is only 3 A2's, but they consider each candidate on an individual basis, so even if you get BBC and they want BBB it says they will consider you still. Hope this helps x

Hello!

I have my inteview at Roehampton for Primary Education on the 9th of March.

I was curious how it will work for me, as I have applied for both English and a geography specialisms? Will I therefore need to complete two separate written English examples, or merge the two explanations into one? I'm a bit worried I'll seem all over the map about what I want to study as I've applied for the two. Opinions?

Also, I was curious if there was anyone who actually does do a geography specialism on here, by chance? I've read a couple of blurbs from those studying English specialisms which I've found quite informative, so I would find some firsthand opinions about specialising in geography quite interesting as well.

Finally, I'm a bit concerned as loads of people have seemed to have had their interviews absolute ages ago. Mine was actually originally booked for late April but as I'm abroad during the date they originally offered me they rebooked me for a month earlier. Has anyone received acceptances yet? Will the fact that I applied late (early January) affect my possible acceptance into one of the courses?

Thanks!
Bump!

Anyone? Please?

Hi Danielle,

Well done on your interview! I can't speak for Roehampton specifically, but most courses are such that if you have an interview, even if it's in March, you should have an equal chance of getting onto the course to those who were interviewed in November, for example, as they hold places back for all interview dates to accept some. You should be OK!

Regarding your specialisms, I would make sure you are clear in your mind about why you have applied for both, but as long as you can give a confident and convincing answer in interview I don't think they would hold it against you. It should also reflect well that you REALLY want to go there as you've used 2 choices on them, so you could think about some strengths of the Roehampton course and play on them.

Good luck!

Heyy, I had my Roehampton interview last month.
I think that even though you're applying for two subject specialisms, you will probably only have to do one written test - because they made it clear to us that the written test was really just to test our standard of written English.
Then, you only progress to the interview stage if you standard of English is up to scratch (they mark the papers in the lunch break). The interview is where you really talk more about your subject specialism, and there is a separate interviewer for each subject specialism... So you will probably have two interviews, with separate tutors. The interviews aren't that long, mine lasted about 15-20 minutes.
Can't help with the geography as I applied for a subject specialism in english, but hope this helped a little bit  X

Ah that's all very helpful, especially knowing I'll be having two interviews, thank you!

Have you heard back from them yet? x

I had an interview on the 12th January for Primary PGCE and am still waiting to hear if I've got it or not. A friend of mine had her interview for IOE on Friday and found out yesterday that she got it. Seems so unfair that people are finding out so quickly and we're still waiting. I'm literally checking my phone every half hour for the past 2 days. As soon as anyone hears please let us know! The wait is killing me!

Thank you guys for all the support! It went really well & I had to do an extract from harry potter just like someone said! :P nice  I also had an interview at Durham and Canterbury. I got a kinda offer from Canterbury...but they can't give me an official one because the lovely British government haven't yet got their bums of the couch -.- so ...waiting to hear from them. I got an e-mail from Durham as well..saying that I should hear from them before the end of February..so I'm checking my inbox everyday! Good luck to all of you! & Thanks again! & I'll keep you updated

@abcdanielle: you won't have to complete two written tasks...I chose two specialisms as well and the woman there said I could write about both or just one...it was up to me. I advise you choose one though, because you only get forty minutes to do it :s-smilie: I'm sure you'll do fine! GOODLUCK
