Trinity St Davids (Lampeter?)

I want to do Archaeology and Mediaeval Studies.

How would you rate it?

So far I'm liking the courses and the location (small is good, I'm a country girl), the accomodation price and the fact that it's far enough away from home for me to be independant, but not so far that getting back is prohibitive.

But (as my mum keeps pointing out), it's not Russell League (she is obsessed with that thing), and it 'has no nightlife' (firstly, how does she know? and secondly, neither do I)

I got an offer from them today to do Classics  never been there but from the website and talking to them on the phone, it sounds really nice! Quiet yes, but it depends what you're into. Apparently the lecturers are always keen to help you understand the work rather than just shunt you on to the library (which can happen at bigger unis).
Are you thinking about this year or applying in the future?
'Nightlife' is what you do at night, and that's up to you really.

If you want to drink until you vomit, pass out in the street, and generally piss away all your money like anyone in a big clubbing city, you can probably manage it in Lampeter.

Hell, I did.
Hi, I study Media Production on the Lampeter campus. It's true the nightlife is reletaviely quiet compared to the city in that respect, there is no clubs just pubs in the village. However we have extension and the SU (our club and bar) which run some kind of event every night and our big night out is Friday's. We usually make out own fun though. It is a quiet place with no big name shops, only local stores, but theres no crime and stuff like that. The surroundings are pretty nice. However, if you do want to go shopping or clubbing then Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and others are not far away on bus or in car and people frequently go there (I go almost every week). The unviersity does seem to specialise in Archaelogy and that kind of thing so it would be a good choice if you quieter places.
If you want clubbing and shopping on your doorstep however I must stress do not come here.
I've applied for Archaeology & Anthropology as well as Archaeology & Ancient History at Trinity Saint David because it seems like the right university for me. Are they really picky about who they give offers to? I'm not british (swedish) but I do have a foundation degree in museum studies with a year of archaeology behind me so i'm hoping that'll get me somewhere.

What's lampeter like as a campus?

Small. Green. Friendly. Also has a good track record with Swedes. Known a couple of good 'uns in the last few years, and a very sound Finn!

Hey there  you are right in that there aren't many clubs and the such in Lampeter, but it isn't far to go to Aberystwyth or Carmarthen for nightlife ( buses run regularly, and taxis are easy to find apparently ) There is also an independent DVD rental place in town, and LOADS of clubs on campus. I am going there in September to do Archaeology and Anthropology - I was pretty much sold on the uni ever before the open day in February, but after that I was totally convinced I wanted to go there!

The staff I have spoken to bend over backwards to help if they can, and all of the students I have talked to are friendly and helpful.

I don't think it necessarily matters that it is not Russell League, does it? I suppose it is different for everyone - I am doing my degree because I enjoy the subject I am due to study, and not because of the status a degree will earn me. I suppose you have to think about what is important to you, and decide based on that.

If you have any more questions, feel free to inbox me

Lampeter was gorgeous when I went to the Open Day in February  Very scenic, nice and compact, but not claustrophobic. Everything was easy to find, and the library looks fantastic!

I have applied to do Archaeology and Anthropology too - if you decide to do it too then you'll know someone on your course haha

I think ( from what I have read about the Uni ) they have more of a focus on students that WANT to be there and less about academic excellence. I got my place because I am a mature student at 24, and because my written work is of a good standard, even though I go to pieces in exams.

Hi, I'm David and I represent the school of Archaeology, History and Anthropology at TSD Lampeter

This may be late for some people but I can say that the staff in the department are some of the friendliest and most interesting lecturers that I have ever met!

The school itself is very well regarded and has a great academic reputation. Although it is not just the three courses above that I represent. We also involve ancient civilisations, Medieval studies and many others. I would say the best way is to come and see for yourself, I would be happy to escort people around and help you meet the staff so you can decide if you like it here
