Receiving a DSA with Scoliosis

Hey!

After roughly 3 or 4 months of pain and feeling uncomfortable regardless of position I decided to take my problem to my GP, and since March I've been waiting to see a specialist... with no indication as to when I'll get to see them. But anyway...

I was diagnosed with Scoliosis in March. I have to take painkillers practically every day and find it difficult to sit, or sometimes stand, without my back paining me. I also suffer from anxiety and depression but I haven't been diagnosed with either of those, yet.

The forms for the DSA and financial support were sent to the OU (with appropriate evidence) a few weeks ago.

Now I'm worried that my problem is too minor and I won't receive any help.

Is Scoliosis seen as a minor problem?

I appreciate any advice and help.

I'm in the same situation, I just had an operation so I cannot lift more then a Kilo, which will be hard for uni. with books and that, I'm going to see my consultant today and i'm going to ask.
Ill get back to you
it's not a minor problem. i'm sure you'll get some support from the DSA.

It depends. There's a lot of variation in severity. But if it stops you from doing things the average student can, I would think you'd be eligible.

If you find it dfficulty to stand or sit without being in pain and limits day-to-day activities (e.g. carrying things), no it's certainly not minor. Apply and have a needs assessment. It is during the needs assessment that you will discuss the difficulties you face/may face with an assessor. You might then realise there are things you haven't thought about.

I'm applying now myself, had an operation end of june and will cause discomfort for about another 9 months, (due to scoliosis) so it's worth applying

what if you've had the scoliosis surgery for two years now but you still get muscle and back pains and stiffness which also causes pain?

I suffer with this problem. 3 years ago I had spinal fusion. DSA have said I am eligible and I’m about to book my needs assessment
