SQ3R for books with long chapters and few or no sub-headings

I haven't properly used this method of active reading yet. All the examples I've seen so far talk about creating questions from sub-headings in a chapter, but I have a few textbooks where they are quite lengthy (for me) - maybe 30 pages or so - and have very few or no sub-headings.

For books like this, is SQ3R suitable and if so, how should I use it?
