The person who writes that blog seems to do little more than Javascript and Ruby. If that's all you want to do, a CS degree is quite unnecessary.
You only have to keep in mind that there are a billion people in India and China who can learn the same programming languages, and then sell whatever product you attempt to make at a quarter of the price.
Those who are going to remain competitive in the computing industry will be those with the bird's eye view given by a formal education in Computer Science, as they will be the ones designing the new paradigms rather than just being the code monkeys that use them.
