Sciencey work experience

I'm planning to reapply for chemistry (changed course) and want to find something to partially fill up my gap year. Has anyone actually managed to get any chemistry or just science-related work experience during a gap year, and if so, how?

Thanks!

I'm looking for the same thing! - I've applied to be volunteers at Museums, gave university science departments my CV, etc... I'm also on a gap year at the moment. *sigh* sciency work experience is so hard to find! :frown:
It's a long shot, but if you guys live in Hertfordshire try Rothamsted Research Centre, as I know sometimes they take people on for a while... Hope you both find something!

Have you tried asking your college/local colleges for a placement/job as a lab technician?

I managed to get some experience in a lab in a local hospital last year, no actual work but I shadowed a technician. I asked through a family friend but if you manage to get in contact with whoever runs the lab I don't see why they wouldn't be willing to have you in.

There is Soooo much out there, especially medical. Start small... Think big. :') I have volunteered/ worked at...
My local hospital - elderly care/shadowed junior doctors
RNOH
My local mencap - got so many contacts through this and now have some great flexible carer jobs!
Future sense foundation - very flexible
My mum has her own business writing papers on new drugs in the pharmaceutical industry, very small but works for some big names.

My friends have done cancer research, neuroscience tasters, engineering tasters, lab stuff etc.

Hope this helps... Anyone else done medical stuff abroad. Looking for something specialised but flexible..!;
