cameron announced that a selection of new build houses will be made available at a 20% discounted price to FTbs under 40 years old .

id like to buy a house. about time some decent policies were announced for buyers, what do you think?

Politically its very astute since 45% of those with bought and paid for homes voted Tory at the last election though i'm not a massive fan of Help to Buy since it's the state taking on unfunded liabilities which could be very bad in the long term if these people default en masse.

With that being said, the fact that it only applies to new homes is a good thing because it will aid the construction industry.

even if its a political move, it helps people like us at the end of the day. a house is the best investment we can make, and we get somewhere to live in. even if there are crashes/ defaults, they always bounce back, especially in the south. and im glad its limited to young FTBs and not landlords , upsizers etc.

the rules for help2 buy are still quite strict, they dont simply jsut hand loans out to those that cant afford

They won't come on stream until the back end of the next Parliament, will be new build so this will just negate the 20% premium of a new house and we don't know the small print (eg when/how can you sell).

Sounds lovely though.

Seems like moves like this will help to prop up the housing bubble...

Also by putting a discount, this could force prices up to compensate for the discount.
