How are A level grades calculated?

How do the AS and A2 calculate an overall grade? For example if you received very low As in both, are you guarenteed to get A overall? Or could you get a B?
The raw marks you get on an exam are converted into UMS marks. The UMS marks from each component are added up. If they equal or exceed 80% of the maximum you get an A. If they lie in the range 70% <= x < 80% you get a B, 60% <= x < 70% a C and so on, until you run out of grades and reach a U.

An A* is awarded if the AS + A2 UMS is greater than or equal to 80% of the maximum with the A2 UMS being 90% of the maximum A2 UMS. Maths is the exception, rather than being 80% overall and 90% in the A2 modules, it is 90% in C3 and C4 and 80% overall.

In answer to your question, yes if you got low As at AS and A2, you would get an A definitely yes.
