Question on European migrant crisis

At the risk of generalizing, why are the refugees allowed into Europe when its obvious that they will destabilize the country?

Why aren't leaders like Merkel standing up and saying "Enough is enough, we have to guard our interests too."

Is there an alternative reason other than altruism for letting so many refugees into Europe? Are they forcing people's hands into settling the Syrian conflict ASAP so the European migrant crisis will go away, i.e. If the Syrian crisis remains unsolved, Europe will continue to suffer.
