Gap year before studying law?

I'm currently doing my As and my hopes are to go onto studying law at York uni which is pretty hard to get into (needing AAA and passing an interview) Before going to uni however, I'm considering taking a gap year and living in France for a year and becoming fluent before coming back to England and starting university the following year. Would having a gap year limit my chances of getting into uni if I defer my offer as there are only limited places they can give?
If you have the grades it wont make any difference. You can even apply for next year and get accepted before you go.
I doubt it, would not make any sense for them to decrease your chances. And as 999tigger said you can get accepted even before you start your gap year, I would go for that. Although maybe that is what you meant it the first place? I had a gap year myself and another great deal about it, if you fail to get accepted by first attempt you can always re-take exams and get another chance
