I'd go down the route of Porter's Generic Strategies. I'd look at how a business can work with a cost leadership/differentiation leadership product, and then how it can adopt a cost focus/differentiation focus strategy. Then a nice balanced conclusion. It's hard because the question hasn't given you a particular type of business to apply knowledge to so I would just say in your conclusion that the strategy depends on the type of business.
