It wasnt called democracy by the vikings, and the viking system is not the basis for the system we use today. However, many viking societies did use more or less democratic means of making decisions that affected the society as a whole. Basicly, votings and other democratic features has developed (and been thrown down ) at many places in the world at many times. Our system comes (as mentioned ) from Athens.

Regardless Jonatan (how the hell do you pronounce it without saying Jo-na-tan?) your ancestors had such fun - they weren't boring orgres like you.

Go on, let your ancestors spirit loose - cause a bit of havok on UKL.

You know that you want to.
What about minors who are failing at school completely and would not benefit from continuing to stay on at education until the legal date to leave? I don't mean the ones who require specialist help though. We could use them to work. Just a thought.

You can pronounce my name just like the english version (Thats what all my english speaking friends does ) its just the spelling that is Swedish rather than English. My name is Jonatan, and as long as its understandable I dont really care how you pronounce or spell it ( I will however insist on spelling it the way I do). As for the vikings having fun, Im sure you know that they usually did so by killing Englishmen and other western Europeans...

My mom stopped paying for me as soon as I was able to work, so I've been working since the day after I turned 13, making my own money. I have a really long CV by now and I'm starting at Warwick this fall so I can't say it's been that harmful (although there has been a few times where I wish I could do sports intead of working after school). I worked in a law firm while doing the International Baccalureate, even took nightshift at a gas station for a period. Got 39 out of 45 points too

Can this stop? It's destroying the subject of debate. If you wish to make more of this we can have it a separate thread

I wasn't taking about working at home, I got a real job when I was 13, working in a clothing store (for 4 years!) and delivering newspapers.

EDIT: Oh and I love you too

Norway - but probably because you chaps plundered it from somewhere else or originally threatened scientists to accept it or have their lab set on fire.

Forgive him - as you know, vikings are hardly concerned with the finer points of language.

Actually it's Sweden, only the peace price is given out in Norway.

Only the peace price is rewarded in Norway ( As a gesture from Nobell due to the international nature of the price as well as the good relations between Norway and sweden) all the remaining ( Physics, Chemistry, Medecine and Litterature ) are rewarded in Stockholm - Sweden. The reason for this is simply that Alfred Nobell was a Swedish scientist and inventor who donated his entire fortune after his death to the creation of a foundation which were to reward these prices in order to inspire future scientific development. As for you, dear Troll, I'm finished feeding you. Try General Chat instead, they tendto have much greater difficulties spotting your aspirations there.

The peace prize was given to Norway because Nobel found us to be a peace-loving people.

Yes, a very peaceful people - so long as we ignore their 1000 years of destruction of Western civilisation .
