Portsmouth university course structure? (biology)

Hiya! I am hoping to study biology at portsmouth and have a few questions. What is the general course structure like? I know you have an examination period but are there none before that time then? or are they smaller exams? there's an assessment and consolidation period, what does this mean? do you get assignments/essays through out the year? are they relatively short or long? how often? how long do you have to do them in? i am hoping to do biology specifically but if anyone from any course there can provide some insight id be very grateful xxx
