IB admissions in France

Hello,

So I'm studying the IB in Switzerland and I'm Swiss as well and my HLs are Biology, Chemistry and French B, and SLs are History, English Literature and maths studies. I really want to apply for medicine in France and specifically the one in Grenoble so I wanted to know if the unis will ask for specific grades and points in order to enter or take exams in order to qualify? I am fluent in french and I've passed the DELF and french first language exam in IGCSE.

Thank you!

This website is mainly for UK students, I'd be surprised if anyone here has specialist knowledge on French medical schools.

Presumably you have contacted Grenoble and asked? Only they can give you a definite answer, but if I had to guess then I'd say you probably won't need specific grades. As I understand the French higher education system, it's quite easy to be admitted onto a degree programme, but there are very difficult exams that you need to pass in order to progress into the second year (only around 10% of students pass).

Yess, I have contacted them but they said they can't give me any information and told me to go to Post Bac. I tried but I don't really understand it. If I do I get in I'd love to try it and if I don't pass I'll just do something else.

Do you think that if I'm taking Maths studies SL in IB they won't accept me?Because it is an issue here in Swiss universities

Impossible to comment truly given that I've no idea about French Unis, but English medical schools have no idea whatsoever about the difference between Methods and Studies. So despite one being way harder than the other, Studies suffices here and all they know is you did 'maths'.... You really need to talk to somebody who knows about the French system! I feel this site is the wrong place.

Im applying too for next year.
Do you have a french passport or have you ever been to school in france? Cause it'll be easier to get in if you do.
Have you considered contacting admissions?

Hi, I'm French and I just searched. From what I understood, as you're European you need to apply with the platform Parcoursup (it's like UCAS in the U.K., and it will open on the 15/01). With Parcoursup, the offers aren't conditional, so if you have an offer you won't have to achieve specific grades. They will not ask you any supplementary exams.

Opens on the 15th but you can only start applying a week after that apparently.
You can apply with a european passport via Parcoursup? The lady i spoke to on the phone said it was only for french nationals

Yes for applying you are right, sorry!
I'm not sure but I read that European passports holders should apply via Parcoursup. However I can't guarantee anything because the platform is new, so it's still a bit tricky as long as it's not open...

It seems very uni specific. Paris6 told me i could apply via Parcoursup but Versailles said i needed to send my application straight to them (and i’m french with a french passport but got the IB and a BSc from the uk)

Does that apply to medicine faculties? I have a Swiss passport but I come from the French part of Switzerland but I have never been in a French school. I hope I do get accepted at least in one of the Unis take me cuz I’m basically applying to every Mrs uni close to my area. My guidance counselor called the admissions but they haven’t said anything specific so what I’ll do is speak to the guidance counselor of the French section of my school that do French bac. And try that way. Thanks a lot! Are there any motivation letter required? Something like a personal statement?

Its best to wait until we see what parcoursup looks like. I know the ministere de l’education implemented some pre requisites for the paces but its not too specific. From what i saw there needs to be some work experience and some science subjects in high school.
As for personal statement it doesnt apply to french students but if you apply directly to the Fac de medecine(not parcoursup) they’ll most likely request a ‘lettre de motivation’
Also with maths studies you might struggle a bit because theres some maths in the Paces (more in some facs than others) so definitely brush up your maths over the summer

I take both Chem and Bio at Higher level and I have one work experience at a hospital and two at humanitarian organisations (The Global Fund, UN) so hopefully that will be enough. Any ideas which way is better to apply (which will have a higher possibility of entering)? Through parcoursup or Fac de medecine?

it's not too hard to get in (@ least when you have a French passport, pretty much everyone will get in somewhere..) but the "concours" is at the end of the first year and if you're not in the top 15% well you wasted a year for nothing.

You should email the facs you prefer and explain them your situation and ask via which way you should apply, that's what i did
