SOAS..because it's so much better than the Uni of Birmingham

Mind you Birmingham's not hat bad lol, I applied to it but for a combined honors of International relations and politics. SOAS is fantastic though.

...and in terms of employment/job prospects?

not everyone's heard of Soas, or is that just the average joe's of the world?

Just the "average joes of the world". For people who know about this stuff (ie employers, other unis) SOAS is deeply respected as the place for social sciences.

Soas = AAA
B'ham = ABB

I would have loved to apply for SOAS but im only predicted ABB lol so i thought i would only take one chance with Warwick. and i don't think they have my preferred course.

I'd say Birmingham, but I'm a little biased :biggrin:

I just loved the campus. After seeing it, didn't even give a thought of living in London. I'd hate the hectic way of life in a big city, whereas here you're in the country's second biggest city but at the same time it's more peaceful.

Also, Birmingham is good for Europe (EU+Russia, basically) stuff, which is what I'm mainly interested in. If I'd gone to SOAS I know I would have ended up with a career in development projects, not being able to get out of it. Didn't want that.

Both are excellent. I'd pick SOAS simply because it's SOAS, but in terms of reputation both are great.

Yup, i've decided that i'd much rather go to SOAS than Birmingham...it almost seems like a stupid question for me to have asked now. I'm pretty much geared towards trying to secure 3 A's for SOAS...guess i'ma have to work my arse off, although that's not really happening at the mo :s-smilie:

Well done at getting into Cambridge though :wink:

i think SOAS only offers asian/african politics course. so, if you are interested in other areas such as Europe, i would choose birmingham.

Get your facts right, for what it specialises in, yes it is very good, if not excellent for development studies. But coming from a tutor of mine who used to teach at SOAS he had very little positive to say about the place especially politics which the OP is applying for.

However, SOAS is much better than Birmingham comparatively speaking so OP opt for SOAS.

For the record, the place for social sciences in the UK is a commonly regarded as the LSE.

Ever heard of London School of Economics and Political Scienc]? LSE is considered the place for Social Science.

I would choose SOAS over Birmginham anyday, if you care about reputation.
