Applying for a Santander student account

I need some advice on where to go with this.

I applied for online for an account, sent them my identification, proof of uni place etc. to which I received an email telling me to go to my local branch to convert my current account into a student one as that cannot be done online apparently.

I then went to the bank yesterday where I was told it can only be done online and that I should apply again.

What should I do now? since I assume applying online again will just result in the same outcome
Did you have an appointment with an advisor, or did you just briefly speak to somene (eg, a cashier)?

If you didn't, I think you should go back in, and ask to make an appointment with an advisor with regards to upgrading your current account to a student account.

Yes it was an advisor, perhaps I'll try again at a different branch thanks
