That’s an opinion, not a fact.
Why do people waste their time watching their favourite tv shows? Why do people waste time watching films at the cinema? Why do people waste time listening to music? Why do people waste time following sport? Why do people waste time? For all those things, it's because they enjoy it. Life is far too boring if we can't learn to find things we like and have fun. You might not understand the appeal of anime, another person might not understand the appeal of science fiction and so on. We all have differing opinions on everything. Anime is fun to some and uninteresting to others. Deal with it.

Everything you've stated is an opinion! It's all subjective. Everything that isn't directly productive wastes time.
Anime is broad. Simple as, if you think its immature? Try shows that are classified as seinen and not shounen as such shows have much more dark themes and consist of less censoring and generally containing more violence and gore or sex. Shows such as Inuyashiki, AoT and kuzu no honkai are much more suggestive and depressing
Shows such as family guy and southpark are in the same boat as they are cartoons but not meant for kids.

Very narrow and close minded view point. Many people derive pleasure and meaning from the art they enjoy, and just because you cannot ever understand it, does not make it meaningless.
Also you're implying from the outset that someone who watches cartoons doesn't have his life in order. I'm smelling some projection.
Many adults enjoy the lion king, or legend of the galactic heroes, or any other animated story. Story telling supersedes the medium in which it is told.
