Is it worth taking a gap year?

Imagine if you did your a-levels and got the grades needed for dentistry or pharmacy or medicine in the relevant subjects. When you apply for university the following year in your gap year, are you more likely to get in as unis can already see you have the results? I am asking because I am scared of being rejected and feel like it will put me off studying for the rest of year 13 if I do not get im
I know of people who didn't get in initially but on results day got offered interviews and a place. Best advice is to look on it as a 2 year process. Unis get fined if they are over/under the quota for dentistry and medicine .
