RAF vs Army

I am 19 and interested in either joining the Army as a Combat Medical Technician, or the RAF as an RAF medic. If anyone knows anything about either of these, or could tell me the differences or just give meany advice, it would be super duper helpful!

Thank you

Hi

I think I may have answered your question on another thread. The RAF medic role is primarily an admin-based one, not like that of a paramedic in the NHS or combat medic in the Army.

You would get involved in aero-med evacuations on operations etc and also do some roles when posted to a medical centre on station, but if you're looking for a more frontline/medical role then the RAF Medic may not be what you're looking for. There may be paramedic opportunities later in your career though.

Kind regards
Adam

Hi @Waterfallgirl02

There is information on both of these jobs on the British Army and RAF websites (links below) to help you and you can chat this through with a careers adviser on 0800 100 900 or online here: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/contact-us/home

https://apply.army.mod.uk/roles/army-medical-service/combat-medical-technician

https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/roles/roles-finder/medical-and-medical-support/medical-officer

https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/roles/roles-finder/medical-and-medical-support/raf-medic/

I would also advise that you check the website to see where your local Army and RAF recruitment offices are and make an appointment to sit down and talk with someone from both of these armed forces, it's going to give you first hand insight and hopefully give you more information to make a decision that is right for you.

Good luck with everything!

Just to note, that's not the RAF Medic role page, that's an entirely different one with different entry requirements.

Kind regards

My apologies Adam, hopefully @Waterfallgirl02 will still find this page useful and it may even open up a new career option for them.

I have added in the correct link

There is no point risking your life for one of the lowest paid jobs that is also one of the riskiest.

Your life and your mind are valuable don't waste them in the military.
