How has your experience of studying economics at university been so far?

please share, I am considering to do an economics degree and I would love some thoughts
Hi, that's amazing that you are considering to do an Economics degree! I'm currently studying BSc Economics at the University of Huddersfield and I'm on my second year now. I would say that Economics its not an easy subject, but the opportunities that you'll have after completing your degree are worth your time and it opens so many doors for your future career, so its a good choice. My course at the University of Huddersfield entails in-death studying of Micro and Macroeconomics, Quantitative Economics, International Economics, Economic history, etc. and also I'm able to tailor my degree by choosing optional modules, such as Financial services, Accounting or Business. I think that its reall good as I can choose in what area I want to be more specialised in. In my first year I have chosen Financial services module and this year Developing in Banking and Finance, so I'm considering a career in Finance after graduating. When I was applying for Economics, I knew that Economics thats what I want to study, but wasn't sure in which area I want to work like Business or Fincance, so choosing between optional modules its really good as it helps me to understand what is most relevant to me.In terms of mathematics, It's not so hard and don't be afraid of it. What I really enjoy about my course is that teaching staff are really supportive and any time when Im struggling with something, they are happy to help me with that. So, good luck! I hope it wil help you.

realļy appreciate your response. I am preatty good at maths but what concerns me is the essays and qualitative side of economics.
one more q: if you did not take a level economics, how did you find settling in the course?

Ok, so, about essays, I don't really have a lot of them, but we do have a lot of ICTs. Last year I had only two assignments for Financial services module, which was 50% of my grade and for Quantitative economics module, just 20%. And it was like 2000-2500 words, so I think its fine and not hard at all. It's all about understanding the theory and explaining it in your essays referring to the real world. I would advise you when applying to uni pay attention to the type of examination, they usually write it down when its a description of the course. And what do you mean about the qualitative side of economics? Anything specific you would like to know?

Yes, I didn't study economics before, so It took me some time to understand what's going on) I just had to study on my own more than other students from my course, because I wasn't familiar with concepts. Anyway, University is not expecting you to be fully versed in economics before your course starts, so they began teaching from basics like demand and supply. So, don't worry about it, you'll be absolutely fine. And one more thing I would liketo mention for you, the first year it's just like the background of everything you need to know in economics, and in the second year it becomes a little bit more complicated as its more maths involved.
