Taking the left/right divide to mean economic affairs only; I am very right-wing in that I support free market capitialism, near total privitisation, low flat rate taxes and a lack of social welfare and general state nannying and intervention.

I am, however, massively liberal socially. So I am not the type of right-wing people tend to think of first. In other words I would legalise drugs and prostitution, I respect peoples right to be homosexual etc

I am also against war on terror, very green, pro EU, pro immigration ... all this despite being an EXTREME right-winger. Oh, and I still vote lib dems, lol. :yep:

Maybe if you read the damn article I linked, you'd understand. I personally would still call the BNP right-wing, because most people don't know or recognise the political compass way of looking at things, but I thought I would link it because it was an interesting way of things, which is something you might see if you weren't quite so up yourself.

Means the website is just tries to turn left and right into bad portmanteaus of large and detailed philiosophical and political ideas. It is embarassing to hear people talk and quote off that website.

I still don't quite understand why you think it's so bad. As the site points out, both Gandhi and Stalin were left-wing, but actually held very different beliefs. Why should there not be an extra dimension to the political spectrum?

You said 'according to..... they are left wing', I just thought I'd give you an alternate view. Then you said your own score but I dont care what wing anyone is so I stopped reading then but then you posted something you wanted me to read after something I didn't want to read. :p:

Surely though, the EU is a largely restrictive body when it comes to trade, and if you truly are an environmentalist; how do you propose to push companies into being greener, other than using regulation?
To clarify - the BNP are technically very left-wing. As left/right applies to economics alone and they want mass nationalisation (e.g. we have private railways, they want to state control them again), they also want to heavily regulate industry etc...

The confusion lies in that they're socially authoritarian which people (wrongly) associate PURELY with the right-wing. In reality both sides can be authoritarian, and I'd argue; social authoritarianism goes hand in hand with left-wing politics (more state control + more state control) and to be liberal you need to be right-wing (piss off state + piss off state.)

Economically centrist, very socially liberal.

Because there is no political spectrum, right and left wing were never ment in that way, and don't work that way.
As you've seen talkign to the gentleman above. 'Far-right' and 'Far-left' offten have only a small and passing resemblenace to classically right or left politics.

Is it such a massive mental task to use the proper political terminology when tlaking about your political ideas? Like conservative, libertarian, modern liberal ect. It is much more accurate and academically correct. I suppose if all you're looking for is a bad stereotypes and gross simplification, go to political compass and knock yourself out, they cater for both.

Free trade within the EU. Plus I am against centralisation of our government, etc etc

I would use regulation. But very very well picked up on. I always boast of how consistent my stance is to lack of state control and green policy is my ONE exception. I deem is as so necessary as to warrant regulation, in the same way I feem anti-murder law to be a necessary role of government. I'm not an anarchist.

What about public transport and publically funded education?

People use even those terms wrongly though. Modern liberal/socialism for example gets muddled up. Maybe some modern liberals may even think they're libertarian. Gits. :frown:

left left and then more left.

On the political compass thing I'm bottom left.

Privitise + keep state education for all but encourage competition and let private schools flourish.

But I don't reeeeally want to take every institution one by one and say whether I'd nationalise or not lol. I'm extreme but not REALLY extreme. Very basic NHS, very low benefits but not nonn-existant etc ... just to stop really direct harm happening to people like y'know, starving.
