Visiting Edinburgh Castle

Legend has it that any student of Edinburgh University who passes through the castle gates will fail their final examinations. I am very superstitious and want to respect the legend, but am wondering if it would be ok to visit before I become a student? So if I start my course in August, can I visit in July?

(Please don't comment saying that it's nonsense. If you don't believe it then fine, but I'm trying to work out how to work around it so that won't be helpful to me.)

I think really it would just count once you were matriculated because if you go before then you aren't a student. Otherwise people who grew up in Edinburgh and had visited as a child (or anyone else who had ever visited it) would have to go to a different uni or would fail :cool:
