Hi! I've taken a gap year, and I'm looking at either Windsor terrace and marris house? I just wanted to know what the social life is like? I've heard castle leazus is meant to be the best, but it's either catered or single sex floors, and pretty far out as well. Do marris house and Windsor terrace have a good social life? And are the flats mixed ?

Hi Hannah

Castle Leazes isn't as far away as you think, it's super close to the Medical school and Sports Centre which is handy if you decide to the join the gym. It's only a 20 minute walk to the main campus too.

In Castle Leazes you have the option to be catered or self catered, if you want to be self catered you can either live on a same sex corridor or there's en-suite rooms available in flats varying in size from 7-11 bedrooms.

Both Marris House and Windsor Terrace are good choices too! As for Marris House it's still quite close to Castle Leazes as it's located right next to the Sports Centre which means it's still a very social option. This 360 video of a standard flat in Marris House may help.

Windsor Terrace is a 5 minute walk from the city and it's located right next to the library which is handy for printing lecture notes or meeting a friend for some shopping! I had a friend who lived here and she thought it was very social because of the large living room in the flat where you can all gather round to chat or have a movie night!

Have a look at this article which lists the top 5 things next to all of our accommodation sites. It's super handy as it tells you which sites are closest to supermarkets or cafes ect.

If you have any more questions please get in touch.

Hi, I've got a conditional offer at Newcastle to study Psychology in September. I'm confused about accommodation and wondering if i'm really late for applying. I'm finding it difficult to decide on which accommodation to choose and was wondering which you would recommend for a self-catered room with a good social life but close to the psychology department.
Thank you!

Hi, would like to know what is the difference among ensuite, large ensuite and deluxe ensuite room of Leazes Terrace?

And also the difference between ensuite and deluxe ensuite room of Grand Hotel?

Thanks!

Hey,
My girlfriend and I are hoping to go to newcastle univercity this year as we've both recieved conditional offers. We're not sure yet if we're going to apply for the same accomodation or different and we were wondering if we did decided to apply to different places would we still be allowed to visit each other in the respective places or are you only allowed into the buildings if you live there?
Many thanks,
James and Kate

Hi Ellie,

Don't worry as accommodation applications aren't opening until late March so you still have plenty of time to decide!

The School of Psychology is based in Ridley Building 1 however your lectures may take place in other buildings around the campus. The closest accommodation sites to the Ridley Building 1 are Park Terrace and Marris House. Both sites are self-catered and provide a great social life.

Park Terrace is located very close to the city centre and main campus. The flats here are en-suite and vary in size from 6 to 11 bedrooms. There is a large lounge/kitchen area which is perfect for hanging out or having a movie night!

Marris House is close to the sports centre and only a 12 minute walk from the main campus and city! The rooms here are washbasin only with shared bathroom facilities. Have a look at this 360 video of Marris House to see the facilities in more detail. There's 6 bedrooms in a flat and large kitchen/lounge which is great for socialising.

Overall try to make your decision based on the flat that has the right facilities for you, take into account cost and whether you would prefer an en-suite or not. No matter where you decide to choose you will have a fantastic time. Staying in halls was one of my favourite university experiences

These two sites are probably the closest to our School of Psychology, but we do have lots of other options for accommodation that are all located near our main campus.

If you have any other questions please ask!

Hi Guys,

First of all congratulations to the both of you on getting an offer!

In response to your question. Yes, students are allowed to visit friends in other residences, but overnight visitors are not allowed. Each resident is also responsible for any guests that visit them including their behaviour on-site.

In case you didn't know we also have accommodation options for couples. You can see the accommodation options for couples online.

If you have any more questions please ask!

Hi Isabella, You are right, I am a postgraduate student who got an conditional offer of the course E-Business (E-Marketing) MSc, would like to know more about the below inquiries:

1. What is the difference among ensuite, large ensuite and deluxe ensuite room of Leazes Terrace?
2. What is the difference between ensuite and deluxe ensuite room of Grand Hotel?
3. What are the guest policy for Leazes Terrace, Grand Hotel & Magnet Court? Since my brother (I am from Hong Kong) plans to visit me during term breaks, does he allow to come for a short stay?

Thanks!

Hi I currently have a conditional offer for Biomed at Newcastle and I'm really confused about what accommodation is suited for me. I want somewhere with a decent social life and an en-suite preferably.

Congratulations on the offer!

There's no need to get confused as all of our accommodation sites have something for everyone and you'll get the opportunity to meet lots of new people! I met people from lots of different accommodations and they all really enjoyed living in halls!

It can be difficult to make your mind up as we do have lots of different en-suite accommodations located around the city. Why don't you have a look at this article that lists some of the closest facilities to each of our accommodation sites.
When I was applying for halls I found it really helpful to know which one was closest to the supermarket or the sports centre.

Have you considered Castle Leazes?
It's one of our very sociable accommodation sites as it has a large chill out cafe and bar area. There are lots of catered for students who live here, but there is also self catering flats of 7 to 11 students with en-suite rooms. The good thing about Castle Leazes is that is located very close to the Medical School which will save you lots of time in the morning!

Alternatively Windsor Terrace is another one of our socialable accommodations. My friends who lived here said the large open plan kitchen/lounge was great for spending time together or inviting friends over for dinner! Windsor Terrace is only a 5 min walk from the city and the main campus too which means you're super close to the shopping mall and supermarkets! You have the option to select a washbasin or en-suite room here.

The difference between our normal en-suite, large en-suite and deluxe en-suite is room size and floorspace, all of the features remain the same. A large en-suite room will have slightly more floorspace than the standard en-suite and a deluxe en-suite is the largest room size you can get.

Unfortunately you can't have overnight visitors in your accommodation, if your brother wants to visit you he can book to stay in our visitor accommodation. You can find out more about accommodation for visitors here.

If you have any more questions please get in touch.

Hello!

I have a BBB PARTNERS offer for Q810 Classical Studies, which I am super happy with because Newcastle was going to be my first choice anyway (Edinburgh was a close second). I am unsure as to which would be best suited to a student doing Ancient History / Classical Studies.

As a second note, I do not care much for having a television in my room - I barely watch any anyways  . I would like to go self-catered and be close to a student gym and on campus if possible.

Many thanks, Kierensaddlr

Congratulations on your offer!

Most of our accommodation options don't have TV's in student bedrooms however most flats will have a TV in the communal lounge.

Marris House is located right next to the Sports Centre and is only a 12 minute walk to the main campus and city centre! This is a self catered accommodation site with 6 students per flat and shared bathroom facilities.

If you wanted to live a little further away from the sports centre and closer to the main campus you could look at Windsor Terrace. Which is just a 5 minute walk from the main campus and city.

Or why don't you have a look at Verde which has a gym located inside the building, and is only a 10 minute walk from the main campus!

If you have any other questions please ask!

Hi,

Although the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics is based in the Percy Building, some of your lectures may take place in other buildings around the campus.

Our accommodation sites close to the main campus and Percy Building are: Kensington Terrace which is in the heart of our campus and only a couple of minutes walk to the city.

Park Terrace which is also situated in the heart of our main campus.

Or there is also Windsor Terrace which is located on our main campus right next to the university library.

We have plenty of other accommodation sites close to the main campus and city if you'd like to explore our other options.

If you have any more questions please ask

Hello,

Congratulations on the offer!

Park terrace sounds like a good choice! Have you had a look at Leazes Parade or Marris House? Both of these accommodation sites are located very close to the medical school and are both social places to live!

Many of our accommodation sites are popular choices. However our room allocation policy is to randomise our selections within fixed criteria, ie student preference, gender and nationality. Students with medical/disability requirements or other special requirements will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

We do make every effort to offer you a place in your preferred accommodation, but we can't guarantee this. We aim to have a balanced mix of students in every residence. We don't knowingly put students registered on the same programme together, nor do we have separate accommodation assigned for particular cultural or religious groups.

Every student is different and will have a different criteria for choosing an accommodation to live in such as catered or uncatered. The best thing to do is to look at all of our accommodation sites in detail and to select six sites that best match your criteria. No matter where you end up living in your first year you will still meet lots of different people and have a fantastic time!

I hope this helps!
Isabella
