Hi, all. Anyone else here applying for History, either at the undergraduate or postgraduate level?

I applied for my MSt in Medieval History and would love to chat with other History applicants!

Hi! Good luck! I haven't heard back yet either. I think early to mid February is when we'll likely hear back. What area of Medieval History are you interested in researching?

Hi. Good luck to both of us! Yes, I think we'll hear something in February. I'm interested in the Cathars, heresy, and the inquisition. What is your research area?

Thank you! My research centers around the transmasculine experience in medieval Europe, specifically comparing and contrasting the Christian reception of transmaculine people in everyday life to their portrayal in hagiography and narrative verse.

Wow, it must be tough to find the right sources! Is Oxford your only choice, or did you apply anywhere else?

It's been a bit of a mixed bags as far as sources go! The actual hagiographies and narrative verse are surprisingly plentiful, but finding accounts of "on the ground", everyday experiences is, of course, more difficult. That's one of the major reasons I'm hoping to continue my research at Oxford; in my opinion, there's no other university that offers quite the vastness of medieval resources and expertise of history faculty as Oxford does.

I only applied to Oxford this time around since it is definitely my top choice, but if I don't get accepted, I'll probably apply to some other universities for a 2024 entry. What about you?

My primary choice was Cambridge since John H. Arnold, an expert on Cathars and the inquisition, is leading a Mphil program on Medieval History there. I already got an offer, but I'm an international applicant, and I cannot go without a substantial amount of scholarship. So, I'm waiting to hear about funding. If I also get an offer from Oxford, I will probably choose the one that provides more funding. That's the situation.

That makes sense! I'm an international applicant too, so the funding is definitely a huge factor for me as well. Congratulations on your offer from Cambridge, by the way!
