Sheffield Hallam Accommodation

What is the best accommodation at Sheffield Hallam for social life, that also has good aesthetics? I've been looking at lots but none of them seem to have a reputation or many student reviews. At other unis I see a lot of accom throwing parties or being really sociable, but I can't see that with Hallam...

Any advice on which accom is best for this? (Including private accom)
Hey there, I'm in my third year at Sheffield Hallam studying Law with Criminology.

I have had an amazing experience at Sheffield Hallam, it has been really sociable and I have made so many friends. In my first year I lived in The Elements and I absolutely loved it. The Elements is great because the flats are fairly recently built meaning the interior of them are really nice and modern. I moved into the Elements during covid, meaning we were in and out of lockdown, so I probably had a different social experience to normal years but there were still so many flat parties and it was still really sociable. I honestly couldn't recommend living here enough. I personally think it's the best accommodation as it has a really good social aspect but it is also modern and the bedrooms and living/kitchen areas are really nice. These flats are also in a really good location, situated just a couple of minutes walk away from Aldi which was so handy for doing weekly food shops.

There are also loads of pubs and bars local to this area and it's a short walk into town (West Street) where most of the clubs and bars are. There are loads of really nice pubs surrounding the area. I recommend going out on Ecclesall Road as well as West Street as there are lots of student bars where they have specific student nights where drinks are £1.75 and they host pub quiz's, which are so fun. The accomodation is about a 15 minute walk to both Collegiate and City campus, which is also a good distance so you don't have to travel far for lectures and seminars. I will link the Elements page so you can have a look at the rooms and facilities- https://www.shu.ac.uk/study-here/accommodation/properties/elements.

Alternatively, I have heard good things about the social life at the Forge. This accommodation tends to have loads of flat parties which are great for meeting new people. Some of my friends stayed here and they had an amazing time and they made loads of friends. The location is also great for this accommodation as it is situated right next door to the Elements, so again, it is so close to Aldi, lots of pubs, restaurants, bars and close to both campuses and town. I will link the Forge page here -

I haven't heard much about the other accommodations so I can't really comment on those but take a look at the Sheffield Hallam halls of residents page where you can look at the prices and features of all of them to compare- https://www.shu.ac.uk/study-here/accommodation/properties

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions about Sheffield Hallam or university life in general I'd be happy to help you.

Hi Scarlet, would you say that the Forge is the most social uni halls to stay in?
Hey! Yes, I would say the Forge is probably the most sociable. From what I have been told it tends to be quite lively and when I lived near-by it sounded like they had flat parties pretty often, so yes I do think it's probably the most sociable option. However, I think the Forge and the Elements are quite similar in regard to socialising, and if you did decide to stay at the Elements, I don't think you would struggle with socialising at all as it is quite active there too. I personally think the interior of the Elements is nicer as they are new build flats, but this may not be important to you and this will be something you will have to weigh up when deciding.

I recommend coming to an open day if you can, this will give you an opportunity to look around each of the accommodations on offer, and it may make your decision a bit easier. You will also have an opportunity to speak to students who live there for their opinions, which will be insightful as I know the decision can be so difficult. There is an open day coming up on the 22th April, I will attach the form here - https://www.shu.ac.uk/campaigns/open-day/undergraduate-open-day?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=178_uk-ug-0_2023-24_od_4-23&utm_term=sheffield%20hallam%20university%20open%20day&gclid=Cj0KCQjwla-hBhD7ARIsAM9tQKsrWzNibfK-5Hw7yPjBSm-tiXfLishLBKyZOIUWLFDEWnMBdyGGKk0aAjmzEALw_wcB

As I didn't stay at the Forge, I can't make much of a comment but I do hope this helps. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to try to help you.
