Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Acting

Can any current students on the BA Acting course at Birmingham Conservatoire offer advice about accommodation for first years? Is it in BCU halls or private rentals - any recommendations? And how do you find the Ruskin Hall campus experience? Many thanks.
Hi!

We have both BCU-owned halls and partnerships with privately owned halls. these are all very close to our city centre campus, which is a short bus or train journey to Ruskin Hall! You can check out our accommodation options here: https://www.bcu.ac.uk/student-info/accommodation

All first-year, full-time home and international students are guaranteed University accommodation if they have firmly accepted an offer in the main application cycle and apply by the deadline date.

Obviously, our city centre campus is a little further away from Ruskin Hall but you might want to live in central accommodation to get to know people in your first year, and you still might use our city centre campus to study and for socialising.

In second year, lots of BCU students move to Selly Oak, which is a student-y area with a mixture of lots of students from different universities. Selly Oak is really close to Ruskin Hall so you would be very near-by!

You could find private accommodation in Selly Oak/near Ruskin Hall in your first year but you may not be with other BCU students/ close to the social events happening on-campus.

I'd recommend coming a long to an open day to chat to current Acting students to see where they live and their experience of studying at Ruskin Hall, as unfortunately I've never been there myself! Our next Conservatoire open day is 8th June and you can book it here: https://www.bcu.ac.uk/conservatoire/about-us/open-days

I hope that's helpful

Thanks, Abbie. I have booked the open day but, unfortunately, the Conservatoire's Acting places have to be accepted or declined in late May (they are unconditional once you pass the audition). As course contact hours are long - +30 per week - I was wondering if there's a particular hall favoured by BA Acting students for its distance/convenience? Just trying to compare settings to help choose between offers. Thanks again.

Hi! I'm really not sure if there is a preferred option, I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

We have current students available to chat on Unibuddy: https://www.bcu.ac.uk/student-info/preparing-for-university/chat-with-a-student there are no acting students sadly but someone may know an acting student and be able to share a bit about their experience.

Good luck!
