Equality in my opinion, but both are required in practice.

If you're asking for a mathematical or economic model, there's the Kuznets Curve (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuznets_curve). If you're asking for empircal evidence, there's plenty on Google Scholar, but from what I have seen they're mostly on gender equality as opposed to income equality, racial equality, etc.
