A-level Economics Study Group 2023-2024

:hello: Welcome to the A-level Economics Study Group! :hello:

This is where you can chat with other students studying the same subjects as you and support each other as you head towards your exams :grouphugs:

You can post any useful tips and resources that you come across, offer support to others, share your successes, or just have moan when it gets tough!

Just remember, it’s against the site rules to ask for or offer any copyrighted papers, or to take conversations off-site to do these things. Posts that break these rules will be removed.

A few possible ice breaker questions are:
What exam board are you with?
What do you enjoy most about this subject/ course?
What area do you struggle with in this subject/ course?

Good luck with the next few months. Remember, ask for help, support where you can and together we can do this! :yeah:

Hey!

I'm in Year 2 of the Edexcel Economics A course.
My favourite part would probably be the labour market. My least favourite part would be Balance of Payments.
I'm in A2/ year 13 doing international A levels (IAL) edexcel economics.
I really like macroeconomics and topics like fiscal policy, monetary policy and economic growth are my favourites.
But, I kinda hate topics like market bubbles, imperfect information and moral hazard of microeconomics.
Hey
I am in year 13 and am doing AQA economics. Anyone else?
Hi am in year 2 of my economics cousrse i just wanted to ask if anyone has any good websites with good 25 marker examples

Hey. I am currently in year 13 economics. Does anyone know of any websites like save my exams that explains economics simply without having to pay for it. I can't find anything. Also just to add tutor2u has some good free resources. Especially the exam topic tracker for AQA A-level economics if you are doing aqa as it has from 2017-2019 papers and where the questions are for each section of the topic so you don't have to guess if its actually what you know or not

Economics resources:

https://www.physicsandmathstutor.com/economics-revision/

https://studyrocket.co.uk/revision - scroll down this website and choose "A levels Edexcel economics A"

https://www.economicshelp.org/ (this website is for notes and guides for writing essays)

https://www.savemyexams.co.uk/a-level/economics-a/edexcel/17/revision-notes/

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/63tmfqty2syk5dv/AABURfjfg29o-rNufXLjVM-5a?dl=0 (This has essay samples which really helped me)

https://www.tutor2u.net/economics/topics (for notes and you might even find some essay samples)

As for youtube channels, "EconplusDal" is really good. These are the 3 important playlists of his for AS:

1. For microeconomics (unit 1) - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWeicFreBUYCOFC2A0SlKrpEYgwaSF63t

2. For macroeconomics (unit 2) - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWeicFreBUYDlaLppnRTZpwgBASflf4lU

3. For writing essays (really useful!) - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWeicFreBUYD-AhJtDQ8q-hO7U5Bwd1J4

(He has playlists for year 13 as well)

Surf the websites thoroughly; some of these websites may have more than just revision notes or just essay samples. And even though I mentioned which ones were useful for me, this may not be true for you. You may find those websites useful that I found less informative (for example, I didn't like the revision notes from physics and maths tutor).

Hey guys, I do A-level economics for AQA and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for the 25-mark questions. I am currently getting 18/25 constantly but would like to go higher. If anyone has any advice at all or exemplar answers, I would highly appreciate it!!

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH YOUR ECONOMICS A LEVEL?
A-Levels are fast approaching, stress is mounting and revision is daunting. The Economics A level can often be a struggle for many, especially when considering how to find, use and implement application/ real life examples in your answers.
NOT TO WORRY! MICRO AND MACRO APPLICATION BANKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!
Created by a student who achieved an A in year 12, these application banks provide you with application for each topic, organised clearly and easy to memorise. These application banks are a gateway to your A*
A preview of the MicroEconomics Application is available on request. These carefully curated application banks are designed to provide specific and niche real life facts, examples and case studies in a manner that does not take a ‘one size fits all’ approach. This means that these packs, will grant you a comprehensive, tailored learning experience that maximises your marks in the exam
Pricing
MicroEconomics:£30
Macroeconomics:£30
Package of Both: £50
Please contact: 07494185447 for more details and how to order your application banks.

So I actually found that using a writing frame really helps. Do you have one? If you want I can attach a link to the one I use. I found personally that when I write a micro answer my peals are better than my macro and my maco conclusion is more detailed. I will attach the link below for the one I use as I find it helps me structure my answer so I make sure I can write it. My teacher used the analogy of imagine you are blowing up a balloon and then when you get to the however burst the balloon. It kind of helped to be fair. I also do AQA. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IbstdVTOE3RZmJBfhspykJPP7dh4nXOIsK20gsPkYU4/edit?usp=sharing

I have one that I wrote and got marked if you want me to attach that one. I got 22/25 on and then with the improvements which were in green I got 25. It is AQA that my exam board is for though so is that the one you have?

Hey, I'm in year 12! Are there any tips or resources you could give me?
I would definitely suggest doing past paper questions straight away. I know exams seem far but by doing exam questions and handing them in it is a real game changer. When I first started economics in year 12 I absolutely hated it because I just couldn't grasp anything I was doing. I would get Ds and Es in any mocks or questions I were to hand in and it wasn't until I started handing more and more questions that this completely changed and I went from Ds to As and A*s. I feel like economics is so much easier when you are in year 13 because all the topics link in. See if your teacher has exampro. That definitely helped a lot as it was a bunch of exam questions for economics specifically made for each topic. I have a writing frame which I will attach below which helped m massively. My economic teachers advise is always to drill into one point when you are writing your exam and analyze it over and over again. I would also definitely suggest learning the basic diagrams so you have a minimal understanding. I also found my drawing AD and AS curves and then adding the shifts (AD2 or AS2 in a different colour really helps to see how it works). https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IbstdVTOE3RZmJBfhspykJPP7dh4nXOIsK20gsPkYU4/edit?usp=sharing
