Cambridge Law Application Journey

Could someone describe (just briefly) step-by-step the normal path someone would take from starting their A-levels in Y12 to getting a letter of admission to study Law at Cambridge?

1. take A-levels such as history, politics, economics, sociology, or english literature - law a-level is pretty useless
2. make sure you're averaging A* predictions in all of them, and be prepared to meet high conditions
3. connect with your history/politics teacher (preferably) and get them to write you a strong letter of recommendation
4. do LOTS of debate, MUN, public speaking etc. - make sure your teacher mentions this in your reference
5. read law books and academic texts. you should be able to find a suitable list online easily
6. do research about specific parts of law that you're interested in
7. PRACTICE FOR THE INTERVIEW - it'll mostly be academic and revolving around your interest in law, so make sure you've actually read the books you mention in your personal statement. it's cambridge - with not-so-great luck, the person interviewing you might be the author!

if anyone wants to add on, feel free. good luck!

You don't need to have all writing essay subjects as some applicants get in with Maths, Further Maths, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as well as Psychology.

yes they do, but half the subjects you've mentioned here are essay writing ones. if the OP is interested in maths/science then there's no disadvantage to taking them, but it's better to have a majority of essay writing a levels

As someone who has an offer for law at cambridge i can offer a bit of advice-

- extracurriculars-
- do some wider reading on the subject
- maybe go to some open lectures in a local uni

- alevels-
- i did Law, economics and Business studies at alevel- two of which are often said to be looked down upon but I never felt disadvantaged slightly
- You need good predicted grades and to be competitive maybe exceed the standard A*AA offer,

- application -
- once you have applied and if u meet the expected grades for admission you will very likely receive an interview and if you interview well alongside strong GCSE grades (relative to your cohort at your school), a good personal statement etc you are in good running to receive an
offer.

hope this helps
