Placement Advice undergraduate law student help

I'm currently a penultimate year law student and I have an opportunity to work with the Home Office as a Litigation Caseworker for a placement year. I am not sure whether this placement would be beneficial to me as I don't intend to work with the Home Office after I graduate. My initial thoughts were to secure a placement with a good law firm so that I could hopefully get an offer to work with the firm after I graduate but this is the only offer I have. I cant apply to many law placements as the deadlines have long passed.
My concerns are that if I take this placement, would it benefit me to secure a job at a good city firm after graduation, or would I be questioned in interviews as to why I have chosen to take up the placement if its something I don't intend in doing.
Advise from law graduates would be greatly appreciated
