karl marx was rightMost landlords borrow (using a mortgage) in order to purchase the properties they rent out, and then use the rental income to pay-off the mortgage.
If you don't have the financial means to secure such a loan (from a bank or elsewhere), and you don't have the funds to purchase a property outright, then you have no property to rent-out. Hence you can't be a landlord.
Inherit a property, get rich and buy one, win a lottery jackpot, get a property as part of a civil partnership or divorce settlement.
