A teenage magazine has invited readers to write articles on topics that people have strong views about. The latest topic is tattoos are they just harmless fun and fashion or something to regret in later life? You decide to write an article on the topic.

Terrific or Terrible Tattoos by Emily

Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo? Are you unsure on what to get or whether it's worth the pain? Well this article will explain everything you need to need to know in order to convince you or turn you away. Tattoos have become very popular in the 21st century and it feels like every person you pass on the streets has one.

Tattoos allow a person to express their thoughts, interests and identity. You can allow your imagination to run wild as the possibilities are endless! In the UK it is said that the most popular tattoos are of names or peoples pets. Would you get a tattoo of these? One positive, is that each tattoo is unique which means you can stand out and be different from everyone else knowing that no one has the same image as you. You can put tattoos pretty much anywhere on your body from your arm to your leg to your foot or ankle but depending on your pain tolerance you may want to give it a miss.

Are you scared of needles? If so, then a permanent tattoo may not be the best for you and I would also advise that you don't continue reading this paragraph. Tattoos are formed by injecting different coloured inks into the skin through hundreds of tiny needles at what feels like 100 miles per hour but if this doesn't deter you then you'll end up with an extraordinary piece of art on your body. Tattoos can take up to a few hours to complete so be ready to endure a couple of hours of pain.

The downside that comes with detailed and exceptional tattoos is the cost. Tattoos can be pretty pricey but this depends on the artist, size and desired design. Maybe save some money over a few months to get one that means something special to you or ask for one as a gift from friends or family. Cost and quality come hand in hand as cheap tattoos can often lead to fading of the inks or an image that doesn't exactly look like what you wanted. Mistakes can lead you to feel embarrassed or less confident so make sure you look around and check the reviews!

Ready to get a tattoo? As you can see there are many pros and cons so make sure to weigh these up in order to make a decision on whether a tattoo is the right thing for you. Of course as a teenager I'm afraid you'll have to wait till you're 18 but maybe start thinking of designs or cool patterns and finally make sure you get permission from your parents!
