Education

I'm autistic and dyslexic and I'm needing to sit primary school SATS because my learning is far behind because I wasn't diagnose with dyslexia until much later.

Background information: I went to three primary schools and one secondary school that was a SEN provision I feel like they didn't push me enough or challenge me enough because of my autism I feel didn't receive the adequate support I needed a during education.

They didn't offer me any homework during my time during education so therefore I feel I didn't have enough practise when it comes to subjects like science, maths and English.

Today: I decided hire a private tutor recently that's specialises in nursery and primary school teaching for SAT tests for maths, English and science in order for me to get to an acceptable standard in order for me to pass IGCSE and international baccalaureate diploma.

I also decided to use the dyslexia shop in order for me to get talking pen and dyslexia accessibility software for me to access text to speech to help me read out the questions, talking pen to read out the text of questions ect, I need to pay for my own study guides and materials in order to achieve an acceptable standard.

Mental health: I currently have low levels of motivation and I need to increase this in order for me to achieve what I want from further education, training and so on.

Debate: Teachers and lectures alike in school should not reward poor results instead do increase detention, punishment and be more strict with their peers; does anybody agree with me?

Is there an alternative to punishment in SEN provisions in order to increase productivity?

How can I boost my productivity and proactive approach in education?

No - lots of empirical evidence that shows productivity does not improve with punishment. All you do is foster an environment of fear rather than productivity. My last school used to make kids read during detention. They will grow up associating reading with doing something wrong and as a result will not read and their literacy levels will fall which is bad for society.

The current mantra is to reward effort, not results.

I'm studying primary school education at primary and secondary school level.

Right. But being threatened with punishment of one kind or another wouldn't have helped you. It would have made things even worse. SEND schools are in a tough spot right now. There is so much demand that children who should go to SEND schools but who are not deemed severe enough end up in mainstream or just squeeze in but are not supported adequately because all the attention goes on the students who have high needs. It is always a challenge making a general system fit very specific and individual needs.

All the very best with your SATs.

All I need to do now is to go to Waterstones and then hire a private tutor to help me with my Sats I need to do these Sats or else I'm gonna fail.
