How to Beat the Stress before Results Day

Results Day is looming and no doubt you might be feeling a bit anxious about it. Here are tricks that will help you manage the stress and focus on celebrating your immense achievement!

Take a Breath and Stay Calm

The pressure of Results Day can feel very overwhelming. It’s important to remember that you have tried your best, and the rest is now out of your hands. There is no need to worry about something you can’t change. Breathing exercises can be helpful when you feel very overwhelmed. You can find instructions on how to use breathing as a way to cope with stress here.

Be Kind to Yourself

It can be easy to look for reasons why things won’t go the way you want, or to believe you have massively messed up an exam. This only makes you feel worse and stress more! Instead of pondering what could go wrong, focus on looking after yourself. Distract yourself by watching a film, seeing a friend or baking something! It all depends on what you enjoy doing and what can best keep your mind from worrying. We are hosting an event to help you relax and keep your mind from stressing which you can find out about below!

Date: Wednesday 16th August 2023, 2pm
Event: Relax before Results Day with Meditation and Chair Yoga Take 30 minutes out from your day to join a relaxing chair yoga session, with qualified Yoga teacher James. James will lead you through a series of moves, breathing exercises and meditation techniques to help focus your mind and ease any tension or worries before receiving your results. https://events.unibuddy.co/oxford-brookes-university/meditation-yoga-session-live

Prepare

There are certain things you can do to prepare for Results Day. If you are concerned you will not achieve the required results for your offer, take a look at what is on offer during Clearing. In 2022, over 70,000 students were accepted onto courses through Clearing. The process is straightforward and you can receive a Clearing offer within a few hours of you calling us. To find out how to apply through Clearing, as well as which courses are on offer, please take a look here. It’s important to be aware that as courses fill up, they will no longer be available through Clearing. So don’t wait to apply once you receive your results! We will also be hosting two webinar events where you can ask us questions.

P.S. Did you know…

If you made Oxford Brookes your firm choice, you can still be admitted onto your course even if you achieve 8 UCAS points (or one grade) below your required UCAS Tariff Points.

If you did not achieve the UCAS tariff points required for your course, we will offer you a corresponding foundation course if available.

Maintain a Healthy Routine

You might struggle with the uncertainty of waiting for Results Day and taking control of certain aspects in your life can help with those feelings of uncertainty. Work on creating a good routine to follow on the lead up to Results Day. Make sure you are getting to bed at a reasonable time each night and eating and drinking enough each day. Each person’s daily routine will look different, but it is very important to keep that routine going during stressful times to ensure you do not become overwhelmed.

Reach Out

Speak to someone you trust about how you are feeling. You are not alone and speaking to someone about your emotions can make the situation feel more manageable.

From Oxford Brookes, we wish you the best of luck this Results Day!

Great advice.

And also that stress is a completely normal thing, and can often be a good thing - a source of adrenalin.

Just remember to recognise how you're feeling and respond proportionately.
