Are 8A*s and 1A enough for a student who wants to study Medicine at Oxford?

Oxford medicine do not score GCSEs for shortlisting per their website: https://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/medicine/pre-clinical/statistics

edit: the above is no longer correct as of this year they appear to be scoring GCSEs again: https://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/medicine/pre-clinical/faqs/how-do-you-short-list-for-interview

Wasn’t that just for 2020???

It was for 2021 and 2022, but looking a bit further into it I can see they have published guidance on how they are scoring GCSEs for 2023 - I missed this before. See here: https://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/medicine/pre-clinical/faqs/how-do-you-short-list-for-interview

So apologies, I was incorrect - will amend my previous post. They are returning to scoring GCSEs as well as BMAT.

In this case I would anticipate you are probably unlikely to be competitive. I would suggest considering other medical schools. As I noted on another recent thread, which medical school you go to in the UK ultimately does not affect your medical training directly as the GMC and NHS see all medical schools as equal and blind recruiters to your medical school to ensure no bias.
I’ll keep this in mind ! Thank you once more !
